Say what you will about Cougar High, but I've received the impression the last few months that there is definitely a bus driver over there and they have a plan to do big things. I get the opposite feeling from our athletic department in general. A two-day swing through New York and ESPN fits in with UH's master plan of increasing its profile. Second-year athletic director Mack Rhoades has restructured the department to what he describes as "an outbound company."
"We can't wait for our phone to ring to sell a ticket," he explained.

"The excitement in our program is illustrated by the TCU, Fort Worth and surrounding communities helping us set an all-time record for football season-ticket sales. We've gone over the 16,200 mark with a month still to go before our home opener. Last year, we set single-season attendance records in football, soccer, volleyball and baseball. It's fashionable to watch the Horned Frogs."

And he can't even put it in his own words.

What’s worse is I live 12 miles closer to TCU than SMU and bought season tickets when SMU had not won anything in 20 years and the school 12 miles closer was top 25. I don’t like frogs. What can I say.

considering what they have done on the field and the fact that there is literally nothing else to do in the entire city of Ft Worth - 16k in season tickets is pretty underwhelming.

Final season ticket sales will be in the neighborhood of 18-20k which is more than actually attend a typical smu game. You guys would fall all over yourselves if you got 10k.
Most BCS school are in this range except for the UT's of the world.

They're starting to resemble NTSU fans by interjecting on every thread and trying to steer conversations their way when it has nothing to do with them.

Great news about tcu ticket sales
If they can do that in a town the size of fort worth, we will have no problems in a big city the size of Dallas.
It's all about winning and that's what we are starting to do.
Got to love the Boulevard.

you live a very sheltered existence. "Most BCS schools sell only 18-20k"? That must be a reference to Baylor or Iowa State. Ever heard of the SEC? Big 10? There are plenty of schools with 70k plus stadiums selling 40k or more season tickets. TCU has built a quality football program, but is still minor league attendance wise. And yes...I expect SMU would be very happy to sell 10k season tickets. We aren't that far removed form back to back 1-11 seasons.

and the froggie competion for sports entertainment dollar is .....oh, yeah - nothing.
SMU has to compete with the sports dollar against Mavs, Cowboys, Rangers, Stars, major league soccer, indoor football, etc....

and that's a small part of what allows them to draw better than we do...but the point here is that we are both small privates that (as a rule) the general population doesn't readily identify with. I think JJ "gets it" and wants to do a lot more to help SMU become more a part of the Dallas community. That's difficult when the school (financially) is so exclusive.
