PonyGrad,

Nice job pulling together all that info from various sources. 2 thumbs ups.

Q: As a former defensive end, I like the fact that we're recruiting a bunch of 'em. But what gives? Off the top of my head, it seems like half the 2011 class is made up of DEs. Are we assuming we can bulk some of them up and we'll have fast, athletic nose tackles. Will some of these guys bulk up and become fast, athletic O-tackles? Jumbo linebackers? Are we just recruiting "best athletes"? Like on offense how oftentimes the best athlete on the team is a QB and when they go to college they convert to their more natural skill position??

At 6'1, 230 and can run a 4.6, he might make a bitchin' middle or strong side LB.

His video looks a bit MTV-esque, but I really like the way he whips up on his opponents.

I'm assuming he's got solid academics, too given the Stanford offer?

I think the video is bad [deleted], one of the best HS recruit videos I've seen. Hell, have him do double duty and produce content for our new vidjeo board.

When he smells blood, he seems to find an extra gear. Would make a bad [deleted] linebacker. Put him with Moreland and watch us really compete.

It seems to me that they like High School DEs for the same reason they like High School OTs: Versatility. They have the potential to start at either DE, OLB (in the 3-4), or, if they eat enough biscuits, NT (I know, that's a stretch). But at any rate, the ability to go either DE or OLB in the 3-4 makes taking High School DEs make a lot of sense, just as our OL could someday be dominated by young men who all played OT in High school.

That's just a guess. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong within a few hours.

JJ's recruiting philosophy has always been that you never have enough DEs, CBs, and OTs. DEs become DTs and OLBs, CBs can become safeties (and WRs), and OTs can play anywhere on the OL.

I believe you all are right. Defensive ends and cornerbacks are the most athletic players in h.s. defenses. Just like qb's and rb's are recruited for a variety of positions as they are generally the most athletic on small school teams. Bear Byrant used to recruit 20-30 Alabama qb's which would become lineman, linebackers, but, rarely remain as qb's.

The kid is a beast. Literally manhandles the OLs who are supposed to block him. Don't know if we have a real chance to get him, but he would make a really nice addition to the defense.

Go coaches.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
