Twitter/FocusIs it just me or should our coach be spending more time in Dallas recruiting, filling the coaching vacancy or working on new plays/defenses to improve the team's on-court performance instead of constantly name dropping (bragging) about the circles he runs in. I realize everyone deserves a vacation but I would like to hear less about his hanging with Muhammad Ali, Mark Spitz, Paul Pierce, Hank Aaron, Eric Dickerson, President Bush, Dennis Connor Stars & Stripes (those names are just from this past week alone) and more about what he is doing to return this program to solid footing. I especially laughed upon reading he was hanging with Dennis Connor for I don't think Stars & Stripes has won anything since 1987 or 88. Ironic?
Seriously though, this is an important year and I would like to see the man in charge showing a great deal more respect to this program than to his all the celebs he meets. I read his Twitter account to hear about our program and not to hear about his numerous vacations, his rounds of golf, his son's lacrosse games/camps/birthday parties and especially not all the celebs he meets. I would think the A.D., coach's P.R. person, or SMU's SID would offer a polite suggestion to Matt to think before he tweets as to whether what he is sharing enlists support for our fan base/program or just provides further ammo to those who think coach already has checked out and is more focused on a run for congress or a tv gig.
Re: Twitter/FocusAgreed 100%. I felt this way last week and thought about bringing it up.
I don't know what contact he can have with recruits or players right now, but there has to be something he can be doing in Dallas to make the team better. This definitely gives the impression of someone who has achieved tenure at a position and feels invincible. It also shows a lack of focus or care for his job and the program. Feels like he's on auto-pilot. #NewLobCity
Re: Twitter/Focus
How about auto-eject. Next year has to be the last year for this charlatan and he knows it. It is obvious from his lack of attention to this program. GO PONIES!!! MUSTANG MANIA LIVES ![]()
Re: Twitter/FocusDear Doh, this time last year Lutz had Vilde & Pats stashed. Leslee Smith had us 1a or 1b. This is a 5 scholarship year and nobody is close to giving a verbal 8 weeks before signing day. Kids are commiting like flies right now, and we've got squat.
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: Twitter/FocusFWIW the Scout site says the coaching vacancy was filled today.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Twitter/FocusI think this tweet was an "f.u." from Doh to us smart [deleted] over here:
Made 54 recruiting calls while on our San Diego "vacation" this past week. 9:04 AM Aug 7th via txt remember, if his tweets had a signature line, it would be, "whatre they gonna do...FIRE me? LOL"
Re: Twitter/Focus
Maybe so, but he is out there swinging.......0-54 not a good percentage though...
Re: Twitter/FocusLOL @ 54 recruiting calls, my hero.
How bout this Doh, sign 3 legit kids in mid-October, or get the eff out of here before the season. Deal? “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: Twitter/Focus
I think he's already "out" of here. He mailed it in long ago, and just figures he'll take his chances at getting 18-19 wins against Hardin Simmons, Jarvis Christian, Schreiner U et al. If somehow he doesnt get that, no harm no foul, he still gets paid, and back to the Hamptons he goes, check in hand. I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.

Yep. I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.
Re: Twitter/Focus
It really feels that way, and has for quite some time. The scary part of that scenario is that I can see us getting 18 or 19 wins & retaining the guy. That would be 2 years in a row w/5 win improvements, and what could be a very solid roster in '11 w/Vilde & Cotton available. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: Twitter/FocusI agree with everyone on this topic. I'm very impressed with what Doh accomplishes away from the job. The guy just doesn't get it. He is & will continue to be a PR nightmare. I want to know about SMU hoops. Don't care about the name dropping @ all ! How bout giving Ponyfans, Ponypride, Ponystampede an update on recruiting, the off-season, new assistants, etc... Can't wait for March 2011.

Re: Twitter/FocusIf Doherty can name drop- I can too
I've steered Dennis Conner's Stars and Stripes twice through Caribbean waters. If you ever go to St. Martin, you can sign up to be a member of the sailing crew in a reqatta race against a Canadian America's Cup sailing boat. Best excursion ever. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... s%3Disch:1 Last edited by Stallion on Mon Aug 16, 2010 4:59 pm, edited 1 time in total.
