Dickerson entering another Hall?I just saw the Morning News story on your home page about Eric Dickerson making the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame. LONG overdue!
Congratulations to the greatest college runner I ever saw.
I never saw him run in person, but I've seen countless games on TV and highlights from his SMU days. Simply unbelievable talent.
How about SMU getting (maybe) a third inductee in two years? Very strong. Congratulations, E.D.!
My Dad used to tell me that Doak Walker was the most natural smooth runner he'd ever seen."He'd gain 10 yards before you knew it." When I saw Eric take a pitchout, and go around right end for 10 yards in his first college run in Texas Stadium in 79, I knew I'd seen the same

Let us never forget Charles WaggonerNo Doubt Eric was fabulous..as was James...but the best of the 7 running backs we recruited in that class was Charles Waggoner in my opinon. Unfortuantly he was injured near the end of his Freshman year and never played again. Man! He was smooth!
Wasn't Waggoner also supposed to be the fastest RB in the nation that year, or maybe the fastest player? I read somewhere that in addition to his natural running ability, he had the ability to reach the end zone every time he touched the ball because his "singular" speed. What a shame most PonyFans never saw him run.
I was at a friend's house tonight, and he had the TV on the Best Damn Sports Show. They had the great Jim Brown on, and they asked him about Eric Dickerson, who was co-hosting the show.
Brown on Dickerson: "He was a gazelle, he was one of a kind. There's nobody like him as a runner." High praise from someone who knows a thing or two about running backs.
Definitely. If he doesn't get in, then some voters are still harboring a grudge against the Ponies of the 1980s. Whatever went on in recruiting back then doesn't affect performance on the field. Dickerson still ran for all those yards, and deserves to be enshrined.
