discuss amongst yourselves, cause I'm speechless
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

UNT is a better program than SMU right now. Period.
I'll take their HC Jones in a heart beat over our dead beat. In fact, I would make him a top target for the SMU HC position next March.
NCAA tourney last year.
Close to home was very important to Mom. UNT is 30 minutes max from the Colony.
Better schedule- playing Texas Tech, Kansas & LSU this season. Can't wait to see SMU's schedule.
I'm sure when it came to scheduling, Doh didn't want any part of UNT.

NTSU is the approved acronym to be used in lieu of NTCC.

UNT plays in an awful league, and would be sub 500 in CUSA over a 16 game schedule. Making the tourney doesn't make them a better program, it's a reflection on the level of comp. I'm all for playing a better schedule, though. Either way, Doh has egg all over his face again.

I don't know where this no offer nonsense started, but Jwill definitely had an SMU offer

Huge get for UNT hoops

I just got off the phone with Jordan Williams, a small forward from The Colony who just committed to UNT.

Williams is a top 150 player nationally and talked with the MGB about his decision.

"I liked everything about North Texas," Williams said. "I liked the campus, the academic program and that it is close to home. I felt like I could start right off the bat."

Williams had more than a dozen scholarship offers and had cut his list down to Marquette, Georgia, Arizona State, Oregon, Houston and Arkansas.

Hoop Scoop ranks Williams No. 71 on its list of the top players in the Class of 2011, while Rivals.com has him at No. 124. TexasHoops.com has Williams ranked No. 9 in the state in his class.

"North Texas is losing a lot of guys after this year, that's one reason I committed," Williams said. "It's great to join a team that has gone to the NCAA tournament two of the last four years. I can't believe it."

Williams said that he is one of a few top players in the Dallas area talking about coming to UNT together.

"I think that I can be a good leader," Williams said. "I felt like if I committed, everyone else would jump on board."

It's as good an idea as any. I'm so very tired of all this garbage. Losing a hoops recruit to NTSU should be a fireable offense

While pony basketball runs in neutral, Metroplex Hoops mentioned that one or two other surprise big names might commit to UNT sooner than later. K-State forum 2011 recruit thread says that rumor is at least one other "high-major type" may be on the horizon for the Mean Green.

Rather than [deleted], moan and talk trash about UNT, you need to get you own house in order. You don't lose recruits to just UNT, you lose them to just about everyone. Face it, you are a non-factor in CUSA and would be a non-factor in the Sun Belt.

wow. we had a discussion about Johnny Jones, UNT, scheduling etc a few months ago on this board. this is sickening to me but not surprising. But Doh made 54 recruiting calls (not 50 or 60) from his beach house the other day.

It's hard to recruit effectively when you spend your time during the most important recruiting period hanging out on the left coast. I used to live in SD, it's beautiful there, and let me tell you that productivity suffers. My guess is that his 54 recruiting calls was more like 5.

I don't think this one goes in the WDNWHA list. But I leave that to jt and others to review that. One can only hope that Doh's team shows up and plays with passion to save his job. Otherwise, he's on a slow boat to the broadcast booth after the season ends.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I believe Doh should have been gone 2 years ago but Orsini gave him a long term deal. The criticism should be thrown towards Orsini too. I don't know what the solution is for SMU basketball. I would love to hire someone with some local ties to get the Dallas community more involved with SMU basketball. Tubbs did a good job of getting local recruits when he was an asssitant so I would like to see more assistant coaches with some local and Texas backgrounds. A big national hire coach (like the June Jones hire) may work too but I am not sure SMU is willing to spend the kind of money necessary to get a big national name in here with better AAU connections. The one positive for SMU basketball is that one or two players can make a big impact on a program but I am losing faith SMU can get those type players with its current coaching staff.
