Talked after practice this morning with defensive line coach Bert Hill, asking about the conflicting reports out there about Marquis Frazier, some of which Frazier is now a full-time nose tackle.
That's not true, Hill said.
Hill said that like last year, Frazier will play both defensive end and nose tackle. How much he plays at each position, like last year, depends on the score, the opponent's scheme and personnel, and specific situations (obvious passing downs, short-yardage, etc.) Hill said that Frazier is getting more work at the nose tackle spot now in part because he played a lot more last year at defensive end, and the coaches are trying numerous combinations — not just to see how each player performs at different spots, but how each player performs with different teammates beside him.
In other words, the percentage of plays Frazier plays at each spot might fluctuate from week to week, but he remains arguably the Ponies' most versatile defensive lineman and will play at defensive end and nose tackle.
