Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallIf ESPN can pull this off it would be a real winner for them. They would basically be building a conference that would be strong enough to get a BCS bid and they would pay a lot less for the conference rights/games than they do for any of the other BCS conferences.
its a winner for the top non-aq teams as well cause it legitimizes them and still pays them more than any of their current deals. ![]()
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallSounds like the conference Stallion posited yesterday.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fallremember ESPN doesn't own the rights to MWC TV so I'm thinking they are talking a new conference. This probably is a war between Comcast/Mtn v. ESPN just like the Big 12 breakup was a TV rights war. They pay us chicken feed to televise these games but apparently they are more valuable than we thought since networks are fighting over territories.

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallWould this be a CUSA expansion or a totally new entity?
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
Could Army and Navy be involved? Dont see anyone else of value who you could add to the current list and get an AQ hopeful, ratings drawing league. We do have a good relationship with Navy obviously.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallWow. Just when I thought we could forget about conference machinations for awhile and start thinking about actual football. . .
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallMy swag for the "All-American Conference":
East: Army, Navy, SMU, TCU, Houston, Memphis, UCF, ECU, Tulsa West: BYU, Air Force, Colo State, Boise State, New Mexico, UNLV, Fresno Last edited by Hoop Fan on Thu Aug 19, 2010 4:12 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fallmight actually add Hawaii to the West and Southern Miss or Tulane to the east. Imagine ESPN likes Hawaii for late night games. and the service academies like Tulane as much as Turner does.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallI wonder how realistic this "super conference" really is. I know we are all speculating at this point but this idea seems highly unlikely. Has a lot of moving parts. Who knows now though. Not much would surprise me.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
the beauty is its built for tv and for AQ potential. Together these schools have something to sell, apart they dont have enough. The other convenient thing is this league could split in 2 at any time without hurting anyone if there are further shifts down the road. For instance if the Big 12 broke up, All American East could merge with its leftovers without totally killing the west. At some point these presidents are gonna figure out how to band together with a real plan and agreement for dealing with contingencies.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallBreaking News???
Per Tom Dienhart on Twitter, "Rather than a 20-team C-USA/MWC, I'm told it may be more likely that C-USA adds two teams to grow to 14. The additions: TCU and Temple." He also had the UH site story earlier: "Rivals' Houston site reports a super conference of 20 teams may be formed among the best of the Mountain West and C-USA."
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to Fall
throw in Army and Navy and maybe you have something. pretty lukewarm on Temple.
Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallTCU will have to be pretty pissed at MWC to go for Option 1 which I think is clearly a CUSA East rumor. Not sure East and West know what each is up to. There are better options like clearing out the trash.

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallI just can't see TCU doing this. Why? They're better off with more money and less revenue sharing in what's left of the MWC.

Re: Patterson Suggests More Dominos to FallMore rumor mongering!
Tom Dienhart: "If WAC breaks up or gets too weak, BYU may end up sending its hoops program and other sports to the West Coast Conference." "If WAC breaks up, Louisiana Tech may end up landing in the Sun Belt." Not exactly breaking news, though.
