point taken. One of these days, someone is gonna buy their way into a AQ league. I'm talking ante-ing up $50-$100 million for access. TCU just might be the one because they have a resume too. If a rich private school can raise big coin for a stadium, you cant tell me they cant do the same for an entry fee in the blink of an eye. Hell, I think SMU would be wise to pony up $100 million from the endowment to get in the big 12. i sure as hell would offer before the chance passed you by...refundable if the league breaks up within 10 years of course. ha!

Not sure the Big 12 is worth that, might be gone in two years, but the SEC or Big Ten would be worth it.

If you believe message board rumors, East Carolina offered to basically be left out of revenue sharing if the Big East would invite them - that's close to a payment.

100M to join the SEC? Done! Will never happen but I can promise you if SMU were promised acceptance into the SEC for 100M we'd raise that with private funds in 24 hours. No need to dip into the company coffer.

Relax chicken little. There really isn't much we can do at this point. That is a fact that all of us must accept. The good news is that we are getting things pointed in the direction and not a moment too soon. Any shift that occurs this year is simply a precursor to an even bigger shift down the road. The best thing we can do is keep winning. Lets upset Houston and win CUSA this year. Then lets beat an SEC team in the Liberty Bowl. Then next year lets beat TCU. Lofty goals for sure but its our best bet. Winning and continuing to get national exposure and pub is what we can control. Everything else is totally out of our hands.

huh? you're the one that just said there is no difference between SMU and TCU in the bigger picture right now. So what difference does it make if we beat TCU next year or the year after that? We're still small right? Gotta buy your way in and there arent gonna be many more chances to do it before you are permanent dog meat.

Hoop Fan,

I'm talking about things we can control. On field performance is about the only thing we can control. All else is beyond our sphere of influence. When you look at SMU and TCU from a macro perspective, we are virtually identical. The one thing they have on us is their decade of success. How do we level that up? Beating them. Winning. Winning conference championships. Winning bowl games. Increasing stadium attendance. Increasing visibility. Indoor practice facility. Better recruiting.

Things we can control. We should be in a conference with them. It really is that simple. Deep down they know it too.

not that it would be "super", but a conference that included schools "coast to coast" would at least be recognized...even by the BCS schools.

right now, plenty of SEC folks know TCU is a pretty good football team, but you'b be surprised by how many could not tell you whether they are in CUSA, MWC or WAC. That's just how "irrelevant" the non-BCS conferences are to the big boys. If we were all lumped together, that would change.

Question is: how many teams and how to set up divisions, schedules,, etc... would obviously provide an opportunity for very regional divisions with some nice local rivalries.

You could LEGITIMATELY call the thing CUSA

Charleston,

Interesting idea. The tricky part would be in determining who of the "have nots" we include in our "super have nots" conference. Maybe something like this?

C-USA Gulf Coast

East Carolina
Central Florida
Southern Miss
Memphis

C-USA Southwest

SMU
TCU
Houston
Tulsa

C-USA Mountain

BYU
Air Force
Boise State
Nevada

C-USA West

Fresno State
Colorado State (could go in the Mountain)
San Diego State
New Mexico (could go in Mountain)

How's that work for ya?

There are already 5 BCS bowls. Your source may be suspect.

Sugar
Fiesta
Rose
Orange
Nat. Champ.

Dude he was right, there are only 4 BCS bowls. The National Championship game alternates among those 4 bowls you mentioned.

Missing Wyoming and UNLV. You would group WY with CSU, AFA and NM in the CUSA Mtn., then NV with UNLV. Now your at 18. Stay there or add Temple and La Tech for Twenty.
