That is a hard question to answer. If and when the decision is made to excpand, the open end of the horse shoe will probably be closed in first. I think the real driving force to expand beyond that is if we were to be invited into a BCS conference and the additional capacity would probably be a requirement for membership (empty seats or not).
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

no reason to expand; put overflow crowd in south end zone - SRO - Won't happen very often

Nice positive outlook.

truth hurts; if/when we play a big game and need a big crowd, play in Cotton Bowl or Jerry world. Keep our campus cozy and hostile.
It's about "return on investment"

How about big and hostile? Actually I like the horseshoe configuration. If we were forced to expand I would prefer an overhead deck on the east side and leave the south endzone open as is. You have to think that with 3 or 4 million people in the area that we could fill a bigger stadium up if we could establish and maintain a winning program. I know...if "if and buts" were "candy and nuts".....

history suggests otherwise; just ask the guys who played for us during the hey day 80's...plenty of sparse crowds in Texas Stadium. It's bush league. I'd rather see Ford packed and coeds on the south lawn. If we could do that for EVERY game...even Tulane, Rice, SFA, etc...we will have arrived. It's all about supply/demand. We could actually charge "big boy" ticket prices if the demand was there.

If it's all about supply / demand then you have to adjust the Dallas population substantually higher today, after some 25 years of growth, when performing your 80s extrapolation.
