Honolulu Star-Advertiser story on USU:
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/Utah_State_turned_down_Mountain_West_invitation_sources_say.html

So original plan was to take USU, Nevada and Fresno St. Is this why MWC is still supposedly looking for one more team??

An open letter from the Utah State AD. Imagine if we had to read something like this from Orsini.

When the possibility of BYU leaving became known, MWC leadership contacted three WAC members inquiring about their interest in joining the MWC. Utah State was the first of these three contacts.

At the point in time when Utah State was contacted by the MWC, we had a binding agreement with the WAC and were well positioned with nine members, which included BYU. We were simply committed to uphold our agreement with fellow WAC members. We respectfully declined MWC interest and believed all WAC members would remain committed to our agreement.

clearly MWC was pulling out all stops for one purpose: keep BYU. At least, we better hope that was the motivation. Otherwise, we were passed over not only for Fresno St and Nevada, but for Utah State (no offense ProudMama)

Offering Utah State had everything to do with BYU. It had nothing to do with us.

Why would SMU even want to join a decimated MWC which is grasping at straws?

They are not close to AQ status now and if and when BYU pulls the trigger we are much better off to stay where we are and watch as the conference realignment scenarios play out.

We just need to WIN consistently and then we can pick what is in our best interests!

I think the plan was choose as many schools as possible that were as far away as possible from TCU-except Hawaii

I assume TCU had to vote to give Utah St a bid. Why would TCU or MWC want a bottom dweller like Utah St?
The obvious would be to c*ck block BYU, but it still doesn't add up. Maybe TCU was fine with Utah St, Fresno, and Nevada (45-10)
to come to MWC because TCU has something else going on. Could this be what Patterson was hinting toward? This move would be similar to the way TCU left CUSA.

It likely also had to do with the TV network. If BYU still decides to leave, the Mtn will I believe have to renogotiate their deals with carriers based on the fact that they no longer have any markets in Utah. There was a little blurb about this in one of the articles yesterday.
