Re: Crossover with MWCThis sounds like a deal being brokered by the TV guys. If the 20 schools get their foot in the door for a shot at the BCS, this greatly reduces the poliitical pressure for, and the odds of, a true playoff system happening in the foreseeable future. But it does nothing to slake the thirst of any of these schools, including SMU, to be invited to a major conference where bowl opportunities and dollars are much more plentiful.
Re: Crossover with MWCThis looks really good and could be the best outcome for SMU, of course, that means it probably won't happen.
The beauty of this is, if someone gets the call up to the big show, it doesn't hurt nearly as much. Take Houston and TCU for example, Maybe the Big 12 decides down the road they want 12 teams again and add TCU and Houston. The MWC and C-USA can then bring the next deserving team into the fold. It can be just like the Priemer League, except without the fear of being relegated to a lesser league, although that would be fun too. In many ways, this is the perfect scenario for SMU, even better on many levels of being in a conference with TCU, Texas, A@M , Tech, Oklahoma....We keep our C-USA opponents and if we are good enough to win C-USA West, win C-USA, and beat the best of the Goat conference, we are in the BCS! Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Crossover with MWCDoes TCU really think they can compete year in and out for Big 12 championship?
The best case scenario for them is MWC getting auto-bid...if they go in the big 12, they will be Texas Tech...I don't think they can beat Texas<OU, tech, maybe A&M if they had to play them each season... If we do mega conference and teams leave that is best case scenario for us...We can sell recruits that by coming here you have better shot at BCS than TCU, Baylor, TT., ect... I think TCU kind of does that currently...
Re: Crossover with MWCthe best way to seal the deal and make this happen is to get Navy and Army in the fold on the CUSA side. With them, tv ratings and political clout zoom up immediately and you have to think they want BCS access and this is the way to get it. Navy goes in CUSA west with the Texas schools because they play us anyway and like to recruit here, Army goes with the east. Challenge is moving the traditional date of the Army-Navy game.

Re: Crossover with MWC
Very Good point. If this really has legs and is being seriously discussed, I am sure Army and Navy would jump at the chance to be included in a scenario that includes a BCS berth for the conference, even if it is shared. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Crossover with MWCDon't we already have more teams than MWC? Adding Army and Navy would be great, but then we would have 14 teams to MWC's 10.
Re: Crossover with MWCWhat does a BCS payout split 23 ways come to?
Re: Crossover with MWC
2 crispy tacos and a Nachos Bell Grande
Re: Crossover with MWC
Who knows how it will be split? I'd be fine with if TCU won, MWC keeps the winnings, and if UH won then CUSA keeping the winnings. Or 90/10. It is WAY better than we have now, or could foresee in the future. Hope it happens, but doubtful.
Re: Crossover with MWC
Looks like a lot are starting to come around actually, but it depends on the above split. They don't want it split over 23 teams, and I agree. Let the winning Conf get what they earned.
Re: Crossover with MWCYou have to remember the BCS payouts are not what dries the $$$...if espn is behind this they will TV contract this so that each team is getting more money than current...it may not be a lot but an extra mil or 2
Re: Crossover with MWC
I could see maybe 75/25 or 60/40 type of split. The MWC should get more if their team wins it and same goes for us. Hopefully it would put pressure on some of the teams to step up to the plate and do what needs to be done to get more competitive. I can say that now since SMU finally has taken that step. When will I start feeling stimulated??
Re: Crossover with MWC
I'm for all or nothing. If it is just a play-in game and the two conf didn't actually merge, I think the winning conf deserves what they won. And the MWC is a lot closer than CUSA in this area, having multiple teams already making a BCS game. We haven't earned this, but it would be incredible if it happened...... what is peruna's law again?
Re: Crossover with MWC
This is pretty jacked up and i'm not saying its ideal, but you could include 28 teams like this: East: Army, Memphis, ECU, UCF, Marshall, UAB, Southern Miss Southwest: TCU, SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Rice, Navy, Tulane Mountain: BYU, Air Force, Colorado St.,Wyoming, Utah State, New Mexico , Utep West: Boise St, Utep, Fresno, UNLV, Hawaii, Nevada, SDSU really prefer about 16-18 teams and only 2 divisions but who are we to leave people out.
