But would the MWC now take Utah State? Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News brings up a good point on a recent blog post, if you are the Mountain West, why take Utah State? Why not focus on teams like Houston or SMU? Adding the Cougars or Mustangs would help bring a bigger national audience than say Utah State.

Part of BYU's plan to go "independent" in football relies on scheduling WAC teams and playing all other sports in the WAC. Talk about turning your back on your former conference mates in the MWC...and all because their original partner in crime (Utah) decided to look out for #1?

The problem is that the WAC just may become extinct in all of this.

Hawaii may do just fine as a football independent if they could get membership in the WCC for all other sports.

MWC probably headed for 12 members. Would BYU be interested in a group that looked like this...if the TV contracts and revenue sharing agreements were very favorable to those who are worthy of being shown on TV?

West: SDSU, Fresno, Boise, UNLV, Nevada, Wyoming

Mountain: BYU, Utah St, CSU, AFA, UNM, TCU

Just another reason for us to set pat for now & let the little 12 implode. Then make a move or at least more opportunities will open up. Unless Orsini knows something the rest of us don't.

I really do hope Utah State gets the invite again. I don't see that version of the MWC getting an automatic BCS bid, that keeps Houston in CUSA with us and it's probably better for SMU to stay in CUSA. I just wish we could trade UTEP for TCU as I think it would be a better fit for both schools and conferences.

eF Utah State! Why does the MWC need Utah State? Because BYU feels guilty about ruining the WAC? Speaking of BYU - eF them too. Add SMU & Houston to the MWC now!

Why would we want to rejoin the WAC with the same cast of characters and be put in the red-eyed step child division with Fresno, UNM, UH, SDS, UNLV and perhaps TCU? We play UH and TCU every year already. Tulane, Tulsa, Rice and UTEP are no worse that those others and we have more travel expenses in all sports. And no BYU. So, two of their historically strongest programs would be gone. Why not hold our water and offer AFA and TCU to join CUSA?
