Re: Starting WRs
I like Beasely - glad he is a mustang and think he will have a great year. I also think he has a zero chance of making the NFL - it is just not in the cards for him - not fast or tall enough for the League - plenty so for CUSA - but not NFL. Probably wouldnt start for the top half of the Big 12.

the same was said about Davone Bess. he led the Dolphins in receptions last year. Beasely is about the same size (Welker, too), but Cole is faster than both (if he is still in the 4.4 range). if he continues to develops both his route-running technique and the 'works harder than anybody else' habits, then he at least has a shot at the pros. I think that is especially so, given the success of both Welker and Bess. I wouldn't count him out.

Re: Starting WRs
A share Stallion's concerns. Robinson and Beasley are proven. Haynes int he past had the body, but ran lazy routes; I haven't seen him enough to see if that is changed, but the noise coming out of camp is that it has. DJ looked great when he played last year, and he looked good on Saturday, but is an unknown. Of the other players, Holman looked to me like he is ready to play. Guinyard, Joubert, and Thompson didn't look like they were ready yet in terms of physicalilty, route running, and awareness. Athletic, but not ready. I think our starters are fine, but depth is a concern right now.

cmon, no offense to beasley but you cant compare him to Bess... Bess was a beast while at Hawaii, and it was actually a shame he didnt get drafted in the first 2 rounds.. just check out what he does in the NFL...

Re: Starting WRs
We also relied on BLM for first half of season...after Padron took over we started lighting it up...
We play like we did in the Hawaii bowl and we can beat everyone on the schedule...I agree its a small rebuilding year for the receivers but Padron will easily make up the difference

My thought is that it doesn't matter whether we think he'll make it to the NFL, it's that HE thinks he has a shot. But to do that he's going to need a couple of thousand yard seasons this year and next. As long has he has his eye on that prize he'll work just a little bit harder, and be a little more driven that he otherwise would.

Re: Starting WRs
We really need to back off the "play like the Hawaii Bowl" talk. We were playing the worst passing D in DI football. We can play just like the Hawaii Bowl against an average defense and not look near as good.
We obviously were much more in sync, Padron looked great and made great throws, etc., but we probably aren't undefeated-Hawaii level yet, especially without Sanders or Wilkerson.

Re: Starting WRs
Everything I've heard out of camp is that Cole Beasley has been Padron's favorite target. Is he an NFL type receiver? I highly doubt it. Doesn't mean he is an average college receiver either. Cole Beasley is a very good player for us and I fully expect him to have another solid year.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Starting WRs
sure, I think, replacing Sanders and Wilkerson is difficult, but I think we have more than capable WRs. the more important key is what Nick said:
KP will be accurate with the ball delivery........and, we will get the ball for productive possessions more than giving it back to the other team (especially at critical junctures in the game).
that's how I see it, anyway.

I think thats BS...We didn't just dominate in one phase of that game, we dominated in all phases...Kapernack was supposed to be a big time player and he looked like shti...

I think we still would have won, but missing their two 1,000 yard rushers really limited their offense, and then when the worst Pass Defense in the league got them in a hole, it was over.

I watched 7 practices I think were in good shape.

Guys run, a couple of guys throw a football and guys catch passes. Did you notice I said catch passes? A far cry from the first practice I saw 3 years ago.
Seriously we look good and deep at WR. AR is not the same player he was last year. He looks like he’s going to give lots of folks big problems, defiantly focused.
