Got this in my SMU e-mail... SMU Set To Name Mustangs In Aug. 26 Ceremony Students, Faculty & Staff Invited To Join SMU Football Team, Seminole Nation At 6 P.M. Event DALLAS (SMU) – Last season, Madeleine Pickens gifted two rescued, trained Mustangs to SMU during a “Salute To The Mustangs†event hosted by her non-profit organization, Saving America's Mustangs Foundation. On Thursday, Aug. 26, SMU and the Mustang football team will name the horses in a 6 p.m. ceremony at the Mustang statues just outside Moody Coliseum. The black Mustang will be named “Liberty,†while the brown Mustang will be called “Justice.†As part of the naming ceremony, members of the Seminole Nation will bless the Mustangs, symbolically painting the horses. They will also provide insight on the tradition and history of the wild Mustang. All members of the SMU community are invited to attend. For more information on the event, please contact Brad Sutton in the SMU Athletic Public Relations Office at (214) 768-2883 or via e-mail at [email protected], and for more information on Saving America's Mustangs Foundation, visit MadeleinesMustangs.org. --- btw, "Football Team" is in the subtitle, so it clearly belongs in this forum...

Nothing beats a "tradition" created by a billionaire's wife, named by a committee, and blessed by a nation that has no relevance to the school or this part of the country.
Please tell me SMU got some other type of Donation out of Boone besides just these horses!?!

I guess I thought it was a running joke on this board that they would be named Liberty and Justice. Did not realize that was actually going to happen. Dear lord.

Where's the large cash donation we would surely earn by helping out Pickens' wife?

They already have names "Cowpoke" and "Maybell"-this will only confuse them

As I have stated on here before, they want to crush the opposition to the Geldings by making it "unpatriotic" to oppose them. When prominent members of the student body approached the administration to make it clear that the students want Peruna to be the only mascot, the administration made it clear that "Peruna belongs to the university, while the new horses belong to the football team." In other words, "up yours, students."

I'm American Indian too and this gives me one more reason to be angry at the Seminoles who will sell themselves for anything. I definately have some choice words for them. Also, from the age of 6, I learned to be a type of Shaman from old Shaman of the tribes I am a member of. That's what led me into studying religions. So this Indian sees it as wrong to cut the nuts off those poor mustangs, name them those names, and to perform a ceremony for them. If those Seminoles are charging money then that is considered inappropriate. Reasonable gifts are OK to accept but not charging money (if that's what they are doing). I could go on with this but I gotta do other things. Maybe it's Southern Seminole University now.

Didn't Pickens take Warren Buffet's pledge to donate 99 percent of his fortune to charity? We qualify as a charity right?
On another note, are we going to have to continue to pay the two gentleman that ride them? Are they ever going to let students be the cowboys? Did the Pickens' also pledge money to replace them when they die in 15 to 20 years? Also, who's department do they fall under?
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?
Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
