Insiders says SMU has offered a scholarship to Sulphur Springs (Texas) safety Keenan Clayton (6-2, 198, 4.52)
According to the site, he's looking at SMU (offer), Texas (offer), Baylor (offer), LSU, Nebraska and Oklahoma. He claims to have medium interest in each.
One thing in our favor (I hope): supposedly he's good friends with Jonathan Lindley. Let's hope that helps.

Sounds like he has an Alvin Nnabuife-like frame. And 4.52 is pretty good for a guy that big (and we can only assume he'll fill out). If UT has offered this kid, you can assume he's a player - they generally don't offer marginal guys in March. Jonathan Lindley could have a great effect on our program even if he redshirts this year, if he can help get this guy to Dallas.

As much as I like the idea of another really fast WR, it seems to me we've added a bunch of WRs in the last two years. I would think a rangy safety who can run and add some weight should be a higher priority. And if he already has a UT offer, then he's legit.

This would be a great early commit. I saw Sulphur Springs play Highland Park, and this guy absolutely laid out a few HP guys. We can always use a serious hitter like this guy. Big hitters in the secondary are like linemen - you can't have too many.

He's a DB not a WR and rated as one of the Top 10 or so players in next years class at ALL POSITIONS. Again-why do some of you bother to post your observations about the number of players at a position if you have no idea of the quality of the player. You take a kid like that even if you have 5 players at his positions and then you move the rest.

Maybe because it's March and people are thinking about football. At least ClassOf81 has seen him play, and offered an opinion. How many of these guys have you seen when you share your opinion? Unless you're out watching these kids, all we have is what we read and hear about kids and can share. Some people are hung up on height/weight/40, some on "stars" from a website and some on the Ponies' areas of needs. But if it makes you feel good to shoot down what other fans have to say, fire away. Nobody knows much about them at this point unless you've seen them play.

If he's really as good as Stallion says, and I assume he is, let's sign this guy, Granger and Chris Hall, and save the rest of the scholarships for the following year.
Obviously I'm not serious. But it's nice to see players of this caliber expressing interest in SMU this early on. Having a stud OL like Hall committed this early can only help.

Clayton is a superior prospect, who likely will be pursued by most national programs. "Stallion" is right when identifying this guy as one of the premier prospects in Texas.
