Re: Welcome to Lubbock!
That is the most - and perhaps the only hospitable thing you will see coming out of Lubbock for the next several days. They would hate us more if we were a better team - but I still think they will have a pretty good hate worked up due to the whole "idiot Leach/Pirate dude (get over yourself) gets fired because he has more pride then sense" thingy - and since the origins of that debacle was an ex Mustang.
Even without that factoid there is no love lost - we are nothing alike :
Them: large below average state school in horrible (sorry dude) town with chip on shoulder - average fan is drunk and unhappy with their team's postion in the Big whatever pecking order, and also unhappy with their own personal underachiever position in society in general
TTU fans's team and personal prospects for relative success - poor.
Us: small way above average school in a great city (sorry dude) with no chip on shoulder since we have been eating humbe pie for 25 yrs, average fan is drunk and very happy with our newfound position in our middle to low end conference - a confernece we expect to ourgrow soon - and we are very happy with our probably unearned personal position in society in general.
SMU fan's team and personal prospects for relative success - good to great
Combining these two fan bases is a recipe for disaster if the game is even close.

Re: Welcome to Lubbock!
RaiderRed, thanks for posting. I've had several Tech people (including former players) in my family and have been to Lubbock several times. I agree that it's a very friendly place. Not very scenic, not a very exciting town, but still very friendly.
I disagree that the only time that the fans are inhospitable is when A&M comes to town. Last time SMU's band went up there, they played the SMU alma mater "Varsity" only to have the Tech students boo and chant "F*** you, SMU." Inexcusable behavior. Unfortunately, due to the whole Adam James/Mike Leach thing, I expect it to be worse this time around.
But thanks for posting, welcome to the board, and please share some thoughts on how the Raiders are looking this year.

All kidding aside, I know those headed out to Lubbock will appreciate your post.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Welcome to Lubbock!
you don't need to be a jerk about it man. everyone is just trying to enjoy a football game and this guy is trying to post something so that people coming in from out of town have a good experience. sh.it like this is why SMU has a reputation as a snobby, elitist school. enough with this attitude. just be a gentleman and not a [deleted].gostangs wrote: Even without that factoid there is no love lost - we are nothing alike :

Re: Welcome to Lubbock!
Varisty you are incorrect. I didnt slam the guy at all - and it wasnt jerky - just pointed out some differences in our schools and fan base. Tell me which part you think is not true?
Plus - the guy copied and pasted an often used chamber of commerce list. Big Deal. We can and should slam our football rivals (or our wannabee rivals) if we want to on our own football board.
Jeez - ya'll have just gotten soft. Its college football, not the garden club. You can go hold hands and sing koom-ba-ya if you want to but dont drag us down with you.

I agree with both sides of this argument. For those who think he's being too hard, please feel free to peruse raiderpower.com.gostangs wrote:Varisty you are incorrect. About 1 in 10 posters over there have anything positive or even remotely kind about SMU. They can be pretty [deleted] themselves without our help.

The statements made on their board are equal to their intelligence- flat-[deleted] stupid. I guess that's what happens when your head gets filled with sand instead of brains.

Or we can look through their well-thought comments on this thread about Thad's 30 on 30.

Pretty much in-line with most of their other comments. Fairly ignorant. Definitely on the [deleted] side. You know, very Texas Tech-y.

Re: Welcome to Lubbock!
In Lubbock, coeds are the scenery. They are awesome and they are plentifull. Lubbock is a pretty magical place once you become attuned to it. Plus, you can't beat a college town for good times. Dallas, on the otherhand, has become the most generic big city in Texas. When you think of Dallas you think of traffic and chain restaurants. It's barely even Texan these days. And 99% of Dallas residents couldn't care less about SMU. I doubt 98% of Dallas residents know SMU is in Dallas. Y'all should grow a pair, leave your mommies and daddies, and find out what the "college experience" is all about.Pony ^ wrote:thanks for the info raiderred. Re: Welcome to Lubbock!
Well over 50% of SMU students are from outside the state of Texas. What percentage of Tech students are from out of state?KillBilly wrote:Y'all should grow a pair, leave your mommies and daddies, and find out what the "college experience" is all about.
