The for real pick.

Texas Tech 45
SMU 13

We never play well in Lubbock and historically, the games are a 3-4 TD difference. They're a Big 12 team and a consistent bowl team. We're a non-BCS team and we've had one year where we won a several close games. That proves we've done nothing to show where we've come.

Their BCS type of talent in OL and DL far exceeds ours and with a great defensive mind in Tuberville, we aren't going to move the ball very well. We may strike a play here or there but that's it.

And if Zach Line is LISTED as your starting RB, you have no effective running game to start the year.

I expect the blowout to be in full swing by the middle of the third quarter.

And for those of you picking SMU to win....let me know how you felt about that pick by about 6 p.m. Sunday.

We're going to get smoked.

Patton with the downer.

Its their first game with a new coach and a new system. We won't get blown out.

Couple that with the fact that Line is our most capable blocker, which will be a plus, and the Tech secondary, while talented, is quite young and short on experience. I'm not proclaiming some kind of miracle where we march in and score 49, but we should put up more than 13 points and keep it close through at least the mid third quarter. The game will likely be won on the lines. If Tech is able to abuse our thin DL, then Batch could have him self a serious kickoff to the 2010 campaign, and it will be very, very difficult to overcome that.

SMU will score in the 30's. Its a matter of whether or not we can keep Tech's offense in check.

Our O-line is very good, no depth, but starting 5 are mid-BCS capable...

We go as far as Padron takes us...Get positive, he is a superstar in the making

I want to believe!
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

The big thing in my mind is weathering the first quarter storm. This is going to be a big game, national TV, huge crowd, hostile environment, etc. If our kids can get through the opening quarter without having their doors blown off, then we'll be fine. Just stay with what we do and we will put up points on them. If we can get opportunistic and get a few turnovers then we will win this game. I expect us to win and for the first time really ever, I think the coaches and players believe and expect to win. All of that is a byproduct of Coach Jones' system.

Texas Tech 35
SMU 24

We cover the spread, do not make the over, and end up 2-1 heading into the Frog game.

We have ZERO chance of winning this game.

We DO have a chance to show how much better we are with a strong performance. And if we can do that -- on the road -- against a mid-BCS school -- then that would be enough verification for me how far this program has come and what 2010 will offer.

Until then, I just have to go by what history shows in the series. I would love nother better than to knock off Texas Tech.

As for Padron, I am on board with him. However, my expectations are tempered on him because a lot has changed since the Hawaii Bowl.

He's gotten better. However, opponents now have about 7 films they can really scrutinize and come up with a better way to disguise coverages and blitzes. So the question is going to be how he handles their adjustments with his own -- patience in the pocket, checking down to second and third receivers, knowing when to throw away, take a sack and all those elements.

I'm not looking for a all-CUSA type of season. If he can perform at a level right about where he was in 2009 or just a couple of ticks above or maybe a tick below, then that will be considered a very successful season as far as I'm concerned.

Have a great day.
