Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadSMU is not ready from an athletic standpoint to hang with Texas Tech. The recruiting appears to be better, but we're not there. SMU is working its way to CUSA elite status but is not there yet either. But it's closer to CUSA elite status than say mid-BCS conference.
It would be inacurate to say this program has the athletic talent to pull off a shocker in Lubbock. There will have to be so many things turning in SMU's favor, such as 4-5 Tech turnovers, SMU pulling off a couple of gadget plays -- an onside kick when the Red Raiders are not expecting it -- and making good on some gambles. The problem is in the OL and DL. We may have a solid first division, but you need more than that because that's how the game is played. And we're not there yet. That's OK. Everything is pointing in a favorable direction. Talent and athleticism continues to improve but give it a couple more years for the depth everywhere to really show itself. Then the day of SMU winning in Lubbock becomes more realistic. But not this year. P.S. -- Personally I still do not care for stand June Jones' offense because I am a believer that consistently running the football effectively wins. But I am learning to live with it.
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadYou act as if the line is 30....Its a 2 touchdown game...it will be competitive...Vegas is rarely wrong...The fact that 70% of the betting public are betting tech makes me more optimistic...
I don't think we will win, but we were not overwhelmed by anyone last year, including TCU, and we will make a game of it... TCU is our big W this year...
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadAgree to disagree Patton. Especially on running the football. College football today is a passing game.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadWas just listening to sports radio here in Atlanta, and Tony Barnhardt, the CBS analyst, predicted that SMU will cover the game. His counterpart, Wes Durham, voice of GT football, agreed, but took it one step further predicted the Ponies to win the game.
They agreed on what I said before, Tubbs will get nervous and be to scared to open it up. They think our ability to sling it around, coupled with Tubbs's conservative play calling will result in a Ponies W. It's cool to see us getting pub in the ATL, especially from one of the most insightful analysts in college sports. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadTo me, there is a huge difference in the QBs...I really believe Padron is the next colt brennan, and Potts is the next chris sims...
basically, I believe in padron and potts has a lot to prove...
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction Thread47-17 Tech
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadIf we lose by 30 to an unranked Texas Tech then it might be a long season. Cheer up. We're not playing Texas for crying out loud.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadMustangs by 6
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadI'm sticking with my original prediction.
SMU 38 Tech 27 Padron throws for 350 and four TD's and the D forces three turnovers. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction Thread
Not to take this thread completely off track, but Simms, while a bitter disappointment as a pro, was 26-6 as a starter for his college career. I think Tech would be THRILLED if he was the next Chris Simms. I don't think he's anywhere near that good. Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadI knew someone would mention this...
My comparison was not in record but in abilty to show up for big games....See Texas OU... sims was a better talent, just like potts is supposed to be....but Major and Padron are winners...
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadStallion, please tell me you are a student. Anyway, yall are making way too much of this unranked stuff. Tech finished ranked last year year and if Leach was here, we would be ranked. We are very confident with the players we have this year. The Tech DL will be a handful.
College analyst have to pick upsets, its called stirring the pot. Padron is a good not great QB and you will find that out on Sunday when he sees some pressure. Another BIG point, Tubs is not calling the damn plays on offense. He has no input on offense. Neal Brown is the sole play caller on offense, as is Willis on Defense. Tubs only coaches special teams and motivates players, much like Mack Brown handles a game. As I said most of you are good fans, there are only a few that don't seem to understand the word depth, hostile environment, and superior talent. As soon as this game is over you will slink away only to beat your chest next year about how this year will be different. SMU is headed in the right direction, take pride in that but saying you are going to beat Tech by 10 points is just stupid. Your OL and DL will be gassed by half, your wideouts don't scare anyone, you have no running game (which will be essential to win by the way) and your secondary is slow. I kinda hate to say all of this because I will be cheering for SMU the rest of the way, but you need to check your "pony pride"
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadDidn't Tech wet the bed against New Mexico early in the season a few years back? They are not above having a letdown game dude.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction ThreadPlease go away...as usual no one cares what the TT alum have to say
Re: Official SMU-TTU Prediction Thread
That game was in 2004, and on the road. That's ANCIENT history. Why not go for the easy targets? They totally peed down their leg against a very mediocre A&M team last year... at Jones. (Granted, that was not early in the year) Stallion doesn't think I'm a stinkin' genius anymore.
