From Fraley's "Just Venting: On the NCAAs" in Wed's DMN.

Michigan State over Nevada: Nevada lost to SMU. No team that lost to SMU can win in the tournament.

Nevada: 2-0
Texas Tech: 1-1

Record of teams in the tourney that lost to SMU: 3-1

And Purdue, which lost to SMU and beat Duke, didn't even make it.

Cheap shot by Fraley.

Way to go Fraley. I picked Nevada over MSU, but didnt have the guts to pick them over Gonzaga. I thought the Zags playing in Seattle was too much of an advantage. I also thought it was ridiculous that Kansas got to play in KC, especially when they were lucky to be a 4 seed.

This was Gerry Fraley's response to my e-mail regarding his Nevada/SMU comments. This was before Nevada had won their first game. He seemed pretty polite about the whole thing...

Thanks for the note.
You're correct. I was unnecessarily [deleted] SMU in this case.
I do not understand what happened to the basketball team. In December, it looked like a potential tournament team. From a distance, it looked like
some players quit on Dement, but that is an uninformed opinion.
Hope Copeland makes a good hire. I know it hasn't shown on the field, but I think Phil Bennett will make football respectable if given time.
