Re: Question concerning the mustangs
I was just going to post the exact same thing. Not a comparable comparison. Freiberger has it exactly right.

And forcing that other band to sit in the corner and not play all game. While wearing cowboy hats.
OK, I give up. Thanks PK for the rational answer.

You asked a question, we gave an answer. Sorry you don't like our answer.

Re: Question concerning the mustangs
Actually, no, you didn't.
Only Stallion and PK answered if they were in any way similarly upset by the changing of two traditions.
Stallion was a no. Not similarly upset. He didn't care about the band change, apparently because it was federally mandated, and he froths at the mouth when discussing the geldings.
PK explained that he wasn't actually all that upset by the geldings, but he didn't care for the riders, not one bit.
Everyone else nitpicked the premise.

Re: Question concerning the mustangs
Also, the band had a tradition of having women in it until the 1950s, when women were removed from the band because the university wouldn't allow women to wear pants on campus. After that restriction was lifted, the band became open to women again. It took awhile before a woman actually decided to join (first woman to join back was Rebecca Knight in 1977 - there were others who tried before her, but quit before finishing band camp).

Re: Question concerning the mustangs
I think the band should be in control of their own decisions...I am not a member/nor have I ever been....
However, I am an alum, and Peruna is the only mascot I recognize...those other things aren't cool...

Re: Question concerning the mustangs
Crap, I just can't stop myself.
Can someone please point me to an official statement of any kind where the mustangs given by Mrs. Pickens are referred to as "mascots"? They are not in the Hawaii Bowl literature.

In hindsight, I knew I was asking for trouble, but yes, you are right.cutter wrote:I dunno...but, I think RGV Pony had the most appropriate answer.
