Given the fact that we know little about either man beyond what's been reported, I think it's safe to say there's a lot about both candidates we don't yet know.

With that in mind, I want to echo what PonyDawg says. I bet they're both capable coaches, and I'll be getting my season tickets next year, whichever man is running the program.

And I want to nominate PonyDawg for Poster of the Week - his might be the most intelligent post yet about the coach saga.

One thing about this article that bothers me is that it says Tubbs is so highly thought of that he was allowed to miss the OU-LSU game in order to recruit. Does that make sense? To me that says that he is thought of so highly as a recruiter that he was allowed to miss the game. It doesn't imply that Coach Sampson relies on Tubbs for his coaching assistance during games. Thoughts?

That's what I was thinking, too. Although, to be fair, it was the NIT. If they'd been playing Duke for a chance to get to the REAL Final Four, I bet Coach Sampson would have had his full crew on the bench with him, don't you think?

This is also the time when all the high school all star games are going on. If you don't have a face there, someone who isn't playing post-season could out-manuever you. I figure Sampson must have a player that he really covets and doesn't want to lose out.

"Nope, you're anti somethin else, and maybe wanting the one of the other candidates Copeland might have in reserve to be named."

To be honest, I hadn't heard of any of our other candidates before they were candidates. I'd be thrilled with Tubbs, I'd just like someone to allay my fears about what's on his resume. I mean, we wouldn't ever consider one of Cavan's assistants for the football opening we had, in large part because we really sucked and why hire an assistant from the suckiest suck team that ever sucked (except for last season which sucked worse).

"I guess winning a state championship is a NO-BRAINER to you?"

I don't think anyone would argue that coaching in COLLEGE is A LOT different. Why don't we just figure out which high school coach has the best record over the past 5 years and hire him? Because success in high school has little bearing on whether the person will be a good division I college coach.

Why hire a guy that in his only stint as head coach at Queens College
went 24-84  vs. someone who has won a state HS championship?

24-84 sounds like the "suckiest suck team that ever sucked"
