Wow. Let's hope you are not working on any degree that involves debate. You're coming across as the poster boy for a Greek system that has a strong sense of entitlement. Get over it, and pay up. Or walk from tent to tent.
im impressed this thread is getting so much attention for how redundant everyone is managing to be. for how easy it is to gasbag about "entitlement", "whining", and "getting over it" No one has taken time to think about this and convince me that a 20x20 piece of grass on the northernmost part of the lawn by Dallas Hall - relatively isolated from the main BLVD - is worth $3,000. Im betting on at least 2 reactionary, emotionally charged, thoughtless, and redundant responses in the next 15 min.
Really, by your logic, why should any org or alum pay for a spot on the blvd? All you secure is the piece of grass. Why should alums pay $1,700 for a single spot? SMU should be giving those spots away for free to get alums back on campus. I'm having a hard time understanding why the greek situation is different or more oppressed than any other individual or organization on the boulevard.

i would say the prices have gone up steaply over the last few years for fraternity tents, i think two years ago the umbrella tents were around 1,200 a season, but then a couple fraternities ruined it all by going up by dallas hall and the admin just began seeing dollar signs on how they could move them all and charge more and still be able to sell our old spots.

I believe the school moved the fraternities up by Dallas Hall..

it's quite simple. If you do not think it's worth it, don't pay it.
Free country, and it's SMU's grass. They get to charge for 900 sq. ft whatever they want. But you don't have to pay it.
(and I like the above idea of gaming the system a bit)

Oh, c'mon spoilsport. Don't ruin his "help, help, I'm being repressed by the MAN" story with facts. It's more fun to hear about why it's a BAD thing for the school to maximize revenues.

aye aye. I'd like to rescind my previous statement. Although for the 45k/yr, you'd think they wouldn't nickle and dime everything at school (I'm not talking about paying for tents, which my fraternity paid for the past 4 years, just every other misc. charge that showed up on my account).

Your entire pledge class slid through pledgeship anyway. What a bunch of sliders. None of you could spout our recruiting class or tell me 5 things about any player on the team. Plus none of you introduced us to your date. Doubt any of you make it through Hell Week. PAY YOUR DUES

you have a hard time w/ reading comprehension... 1. I asserted over and over again that 20x20 isn't worth 3,000...apparently no one else is paying that much for their real estate, does SMU charge you more for your spot if you have 100 people hang there? 2. I offered up that SMU fails utterly to provide meaningful entertainment for the students on a regular basis and that Greek life can do more with that 3,000 then SMU can any day. I probably threw some other stuff out there along the way but those are my main opinions that everything has been revolving around.

Kid... Quit while you're behind.
You are not going to win. At this point everyone is lying in the reeds to jump on anything or everything you say. Agree to disagree and move on.

This isn't about winning. Still waiting for someone to directly address what I brought up. All this collateral gas-bagging amounts to fluff.
