Tate Wallis

Granted there was no place for him in the QB competition, but I want to thank him for stepping up when there was absolutely no QB in school. His hard work to learn a system is appreciated and I wish him well in future endeavors.

When Tate leaves for McNeese at the end of May, I think you will see the truth come out about this whole situation. Until then, you will see Tate stay low-key.

No drama. I can tell you the truth won't be posted on this or any other forum. Their is nothing to hide or be shallow about. SMU is a great school and has a lot of talented, great kids playing football. I for one wish the kids would get what they deserve, and wish them luck this and every season. Things didn't work at SMU for Tate, some of it his fault and some not. For some people who are not athletes or close to the program, you have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. For others, they would be sick if they knew. I can't wait to read the garbage on here when the next QB does't deliver and is run out of town. Sanders, McCown, Page, Luker, Bartel, Wallis, to be continued.

Tate is a class act and I for one wish him all the luck in the world at his new school. I wish he was staying and competing to play at the position he was recruited for. Just remember that no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. I am sure that Tate is a friend of yours, but what happened with five quarterbacks over the reign of two head coaches with different styles and requirements and some non-football related issues (such as job/family, rock stardom) cannot be deemed to be a pattern as much as you would like it to be.

With the possible exception of Bartel last season (vs. his first season) Wallis does not belong in the same league with those other QBs. Face it, his performances were pitiful.

You may want to paint the situation with a broad brush, but even is the brush is reflective of something at SMU, Wallis does not fit the stroke. He was given every chance and failed as a QB.

Tate was by far the worst QB that SMU has had post DP.

This is among the most pointless string of posts ever. Good luck Tate - you should have stayed to get your degree from SMU - it would have been worth something. You are a big boy though - and it is your call to go, - so we wish you the best of luck. Can we all move on now.

And to attack a young man after moving on with comments like some of those in this thread is weak. Regardless of the end results, Tate always seemed to give everything he had on the field for SMU, and that's commendable. I never saw a single game in which you could question his heart or his effort. I wish him the greatest success at McNeese or if he goes back to baseball.

It is still a free country (for now), and Tate may do as he pleases. I for one am glad that this young man stepped into the gap for the Ponies; he charged into the breach when we had nobody else into a very difficult situation. Thank you Tate. I would think he would want to finish his degree at SMU, but if he feels it is in his best interests to move elsewhere, we should (and do) thank him and wish him all success in the future.

Well said, Greenwich. I got the sense that Tate really loved SMU, and although he had spent a year as a scout-team TE when he first arrived, I bet he would have charged out there as a DT or a PK if that's what the coaches asked of him. He had (has) a heart and work ethic that can't be measured in height, weight, 40 times and arm strength. No, I don't think he was the greatest QB who ever lived, but I think he is one of the most willing and fierce competitors I've seen. Whether he ends up as a QB at McNeese State, playing center field in the Majors or solving the crisis in the Middle East, Tate is one Mustang I'll always root for.
