Analysis of SMU, TCU and UH Recruiting Classes
with the recent commitment of Stephon Sanders who had a bunch of offers someone asked me about a comparison between between SMU, TCU and UH recruiting classes based upon No. of Offers and No. of BCS Offers: SMU has more total offers for the first time in a long time- TCU has more consistency in its class with more BCS Offers and less players that might be considered sleepers simply based on number of offers. Analysis is based on Rivals reported offers only
TCU 16 commits-54 Total Offers-38 BCS Offers-only 2 players w/o offers-only 6 players w/o BCS offers
SMU 20 commits-79 Total Offers-34 BCS Offers-9 players w/o offers-12 players w/o BCS offers
CAUTION: UH Fans are always complaining and I think somewhat justifiably that their Rivals' site doesn't do a great job updating their commitments/offers-so if a UH fan wants to do their own calculation be my guess
UH 16 commits-29 Total Offers-16 BCS OFfers-4 players w/o offers-9 players w/o BCS Offers
TCU 16 commits-54 Total Offers-38 BCS Offers-only 2 players w/o offers-only 6 players w/o BCS offers
SMU 20 commits-79 Total Offers-34 BCS Offers-9 players w/o offers-12 players w/o BCS offers

Thanks Stallion. These are interesting stats. Can we pull off the best non BCS recruiting class in the state of Texas this year? I think it just might happen.
Just send 'da money.

Good info. Thanks for posting this.
Its undeniable that we have elevated the level of our recruiting. We still have a ways to go though before we can match TCU.

Back off Warchild seriously.

Great information. The gap seems to be shrinking year by year. I guess the admission denial fiasco hasn't killed recruiting after all.

In order for SMU to get to the next level we will have to deal with that issue. Unless you are just happy with 5 to 8 wins per yer. Also, as it stands now we know who is committed to SMU but we do not know who will be accepted into SMU.WSGJ wrote:Great information. The gap seems to be shrinking year by year. Do you know that for a fact. I am still under the impression that the NCAA changed its bar to a point so low that we will not allow everyone that is NCAA acceptable. It was my thought that now everyone, faculty advisors, coaches, Turner, Orsini, etc. are now all in unison as to how they understand what we will accept.gostangs wrote:trust me - if they clear the NCAA bar this year they will clear our bar.....

Re: Analysis of SMU, TCU and UH Recruiting Classes
It was stated on this board several times that the administration DESTROYED recruiting. I do not believe this is the case. Recruiting thus far for 2011 seems to be stacking up very favorably as compared to SMU's peers (Houston, Tulsa, TCU, etc.) as any year in recent history.SMU 86 wrote:In order for SMU to get to the next level we will have to deal with that issue. Has SMU lost any commitment yet because of the situation? Does anybody know of an athlete that turned down SMU because of the incident?

Re: Analysis of SMU, TCU and UH Recruiting Classes
I am pretty certain recruits after the incident rank higher overall than those before. Not saying there is a direct reason for that but it certainly appears that the impact of the issue concerning both recruits and retaining Jones has been minimal at best. The key for me is to not get a reputation of misleading the athletes and that is where I think all are hopefully now on the same page.

Re: Analysis of SMU, TCU and UH Recruiting Classes
We are barely hanging on to Rodney Hubert because of it. Also, if a recruit has become disinterested in SMU because of it he may never say it publicly. So we may never know the effects of the bad publicity we received. Brenham ciach said that he would never recommned SMU to another player he coaches. But I agree with what Coach Jones said and that is in order to get the players to get to the next level we have to do something about this.WSGJ wrote:It was stated on this board several times that the administration DESTROYED recruiting. Obviously, the situation wasn't handled to June's liking. But, recruiting was not destroyed because of it. It wasn't destroyed when June yanked the scholarship offer from PB's DT recruit from E. Texas either. Recruiting is on an upward trend. Stallion even seems somewhat optimistic.

Re: Analysis of SMU, TCU and UH Recruiting Classes
From the day Hubert committed, he has openly stated, on several occasions, that SMU was a holding place until something better came along, and that was before any of this admissions stuff became known.SMU 86 wrote:We are barely hanging on to Rodney Hubert because of it.
