If the BCS is in control of college football(and it is), then there are going to be a number of conferences losing members when the new rquirements for Div. I membership go into effect, including the WAC. This will then lead to some consolidations of the ones left standing into fewer, but perhaps stronger conferences. If indeed there will be some additional strong conferences created as a result, perhaps the BCS will expand to include one or two of them.
We need to do whatever is necessary to ensure we are one of the schools left standing and position ourselves to be included in one of the stronger consolidated conferences. It's rather ruthless and I don't like it, but it's obviously what the future looks like and we need to be a part of it. SMU has an alumni base with the resources (cash) necessary, but they need to be educated now as to what the writing on the wall says or their eyes will be opened too late.
Man do I miss the SWC days!!!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
