I like this confidence coming from TCU. Fresh from pulling off a near perfect game against Baylor (1 penalty, 2 incompletions), I hope GP and the team spends all week patting themselves on the back and being thankful that this isn't their "Super Bowl" (which of course will be when they play Texas or Alabama in the Nat. Champ). I hope they overlook how weak their DBs looked against deep routes playing Oregon State or how it was basically a gifted win in a shootout when Katz had to kick an errant snap out the back of his own endzone. Meanwhile, I hope SMU watches lots of Nevada game film in addition to TCU film, because if they play that way against this run heavy team, TCU will have major problems Off/Def.

And I hope that word reaches GP sometime in the 4th that in addition to being behind SMU, Boise State is simultaneously crushing Oregon State, their signiture win so far, punching two fatal holes in his BCS dream at the same time.

Don't think you can use the word "before" here — that would suggest Patterson has won the award.

Honestly, I'd give TCU the edge on offense and on defense, but only slightly — the gap is narrowing. If SMU can get back to the offensive level at which we played in Hawaii, the Ponies can hang offensively. Of course, we're not there yet ... meaning Friday would be a fantastic time for Padron and his receivers to find "it" again. Defensively, TCU is very good, although the loss of Hughes and Washington to the NFL brings them back — a little — and the much-improved play of our front seven moves us up. Kerley gives them the edge in the return game, although Szymanski gives us the edge in the kicking game. We also have better coaching (not saying that because I'm biased ... honest opinion there).

Should the Ponies win? No. Can we win? Definitely. We'll need a little luck and we'll need to play damn well, but it has happened before (see 2005), and the talent gap is less than it was then. Better yet, that gap is getting smaller each year.

He was? OK, I stand corrected. Thanks.
Must have blocked that out of my mind, because of the ridiculousness of such a vote. Should have been Chris Peterson.

the problem with those awards is that they are all before the end of the bowl season and only reflect the players/coaches with the best records, not the coaches that did the best job of gettng their players to play much better than their actual skill level

Patterson has done a great job with the frogs yes, did he do a great job last year yes, did ferentz take the hawks to a bowl game and beat a heavily favored georgia tech team handily and was picked to finish 6th or 7th in the big ten (11)..yes...All I am saying is if throughout the season if everyone expects you to win and you do then you don't deserve the award, it should be for those who coached their teams to victory
