Re: DMN article comparing TCU/SMU
Stallion, I think there is a difference between Eric and Craig. In the past Eric was silent, probably because he didn't have a lot of good things to say, and Craig, maybe because of his position at ESPN, would voice his dislike for what was going on the program. I have never seen a quote from Eric disparging SMU, but there have been enough broadcasts from Craig that give you the sense he is not proud to have graduated from here. That is my two cents and hope that it changes because we need more of our former players, especially those two. GO Ponies!!!!
Re: DMN article comparing TCU/SMUED has always been a supporter of SMU football but has been unsure of if he was wanted due to his association with the days of paying players. When the team came out to play UCLA in 94, he spoke to the team and was on the SMU sideline wearing SMU gear. I have met the man a few times and he cares about SMU football. Both times I met him he said that they needed to get a coach that would get kids excited about playing at SMU and that his why he was so supportive of June.
Re: DMN article comparing TCU/SMUDidn't the school basically said go to hell, stay away from us and don't come around these parts for many years? Maybe it's revisionist history since Jones has gone to great lengths to welcome alumni from the past, but I seem to recall that being a not-so-secret. I might be wrong.

I believe you are very close. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: DMN article comparing TCU/SMUIf true, and not that he has any, but I wouldn't blame shunned greats from our past for harboring any negativity. Kind of sad to think the institution that committed so many wrongs over so many years would turn around to their own former kids and say [deleted] off.

See USC and Reggie Bush.
Re: DMN article comparing TCU/SMU
and that really sucks. any kind of a turnaround I think has to begin w/ embracing the great ones past. When Stoops revitalized OU, he welcomed back the guys from the 80s. It doesnt seem so now, but OU was struggling up until that Orange Bowl win over FSU. The previoius year, I believe, they were in the Independence Bowl. When they got to the National Championship game, someone asked Stoops if he thought his guys were intimidated. He responded by saying something like why would we be? Oklahoma has won x # of Orange Bowls...FSU hasnt. Some current SMU players didnt know anything about SMU until they got their first letter or call. I think it would only stand to benefit the program to make these guys aware of people like Wes Hopkins and his story-talk about a great walk-on. Jerry Ball, Michael Carter and on and on beyond the obvious names (ED, CJ, Doak). Kyle Rote, Don Meredith...and that's what I think JJ is doing, giving these guys a sense of history.
