What SMU coaches could do with the wasted talent at Texas.

Texas has reached the final stage of development that when an athlete just puts on a burnt orange uniform, they feel empowered by ego that makes them believe that they only need to give 50% effort to win because they are so special. Of course it is not just the players, the fans, the coaches all of them get caught up in egoville. And then when a talented team comes in and hits them in the mouth, they get embarrassed and crawl into a hole. Humble pie is the ONLY medicine. but unfortunately it is the least likely food of choice and so the embarrassment will continue.....I personally will enjoy it while it is there to enjoy. Wont last because when they get hungry again and lose the arrogance, the talent will win again.....

no one has ever confused mack brown with a good coach from an x and o's perspective.

I remember the day that Mack brought his talent laden UNC team into Owenby and was thoroughly out-coached (and out-classed) by Tom Rossley.

SMU was in the game well into the 4th - but ended up on the losing end. Not enough Ramon Flanigan majic that day.

Colby Whitlock is a friend of a friend of mine and said SMU's line was tougher and better coached than Texas' line. I'm sure he probably would have said Texas is more talented but he was impressed by SMU. Nice to hear and kinda confirms your thoughts that Texas might be a little soft (soft but very talented unfortunately).

agreed.

notice he doesn't call any plays on either side of the ball. not his job. I've been hoping for Greg Davis to be fired for years.

at the risk of backing a popular and obvious position...they don't have an established running game and the D looks small.

have to give Mac credit for trying to humble them...obviously doesnt work all the time.

This year is reminiscent of Colt's 1st year as a starter. Everyone thought the sky was falling after losing one game. I envy being that pampered by a winning program, hope we get there soon.

I would rather be like Alabama. They don't seem to fall off with National Championships under a couple of coaches post Bear.

a little would-you-rather for you.

Would you rather..

have 13 national championships (11 won before 1980) and have struggled for almost 2 decades before reaching the mountain in 2009?

or

have 4 national championships with the 2nd most victories in college football ever, and the most since 1997 w/ a title and two title appearances?

another way of asking that question is, more championships? or more winning? ...which feels better?

UT seems to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder. The top dog in a one state conference is their legacy. Bama had to be top dog in the rest of the South. UT has a tad of arrogance while Bama still works hard.

Not a matter of championships vs. winning, but a matter of wanting our players, regardless of success, to always play like a championship is on the line.

And I am just a hick for Arkansaw , not an English major, so I have no clue what the Hades you were saying!
