They weren't from 2001-2009. http://www.texassports.com/ot/football-atoz.htmlRe-entry policy NEW FOR THE 2010 SEASON: UT Athletics offers pass-out stubs to patrons departing the stadium. Stubs are distributed at Gates 1, 6, 7, 8, 25, and 32 at the beginning of the second quarter through the end of halftime. They are redeemable for re-entry at any stadium gate. You must have a pass-out stub and a game ticket to re-enter the stadium.
I do not know why that says new for 2010, there might be some subtle change this year, but I have been going to games at UT at least every other year since I finished grad school in 2002, and you have always been able to leave and come back in.

I really can't remember the last time I was able to leave a sporting event and re-enter at any level above high school.

I was able to leave in Lubbock and get multiple beers in the parking lot. All they did was scan the ticket

that is excellent, except the part about being in Lubbock.

I think they may have changed the gates or something. They weren't doing it for the West Side Upper Deck in 2006, I know that.

Reentry has never been an issue for me. Not that a different policy is bad (or good), just it isn't something that would affect me. I love the college experience. I love the Mustang band and I really loved seeing the TCU band and Mustang band at halftime. It felt like the early 90s. I know the world has evolved but reentry isn't an issue for me.
Now there is the chance that the administration could supply free beer to the student section within the stadium and thus improve second half attendance. I am not opposed to that.

So they can re-enter. Stub, pass, SCAN - all the same.
Why put a negative in the customer service department when you do not have enough customers. Make it the best experience EVER.

Bring a flask, people. At halftime go buy a coke, dump out to your desired level, then mix. Bam. No problems.

The no re-entry thing is crap. No one has ever stopped me, or anyone in my group from getting back into the stadium.
You don't have to get it scanned, or exit through a specific gate either. They try to scare you and tell you otherwise while you are leaving, but they don't enforce anything when getting back in.
This was true for the TCU game as well.

University Of Oklahoma• No public re-entry is permitted with medical/emergency situations being only exception. Fans may exit and return to the stadium at any time during the game for medical or other emergency situations. Extraordinary circumstances may permit emergency exit at any gate. Fans departing for medical/emergency situations will be allowed to exit and re-enter throughout the game with pass out check and ticket back through the same gate when exiting the stadium. http://www.soonersports.com/facilities/memorial-stadium.html
