Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....From what I know because a close friend of mine knows Gary well, he is a very nice man away from football. He is intense and excitable during the game and in practise. JJ is the opposite on the sideline and, I suppose in practise. Two different approaches and both seem to work. I am glad to have JJ but I wish people who don't really know Patterson would lay off him. JJ seems to have a rapport and respect for Patterson. That is good enough for me.
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....Patterson always belittles smu. Today on Dallas tv he spoke of smu having to go "door to door" to get people to the games. He said smu Pointed to this game all year whereas gfi had bigger fish to fry. Never has he had one complimentary word for smu. He is a. Very good coach but a royal [deleted] with no class.
Long live Inez Perez!
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....
i was about to post something similar. i've met GP. he's an alright guy. intense on the field? sure. but it doesn't bother me. whatever he thinks it takes to win. they're doing something right in funkytown. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....Glad to hear he is nice, but he STILLS needs to get some pants the fit!!!!!!
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....As I have said before, if he had done at SMU what he has done at TCU, we would have erected a statue of him outside Ford. You might not like his sweating, his intensity, the way his pants fit, etc., but the guy can coach.
Personally, I think this thread is childish and reeks of envy. We are SMU. We are better than this.
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....What I'm REALLY gonna wait to see is that FAT*SSS complaining on the sideline the next 2 years when his *SS is getting KICKED!!!!!
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....Can't Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....Of course we are jealous of the success of TCU.
It doesn't change the fact, however, that if JJ and the Ponies were ranked #4 and just beat the TCU Horned Frogs, we would NOT be spewing the same crap. A Mustang Fan and an SMU Class Of 08 Theatre Major. Believe It.

Well we'll just have to wait until you guys are ranked #4 and find out! ![]()
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....All I know is that when we were No. 2 or so in the 1980s we routinely referred to the SMU game as TCU's Super Bowl-every fan of that period knows it. And TCU gave some of our great teams closer games than SMU gave TCU Friday Nite. BTW SMU still had a great team despite the close wins against a mediocre opponent.

Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....TCU'S SUPER BOWL:
Man those games by mediocre TCU teams against our greatest teams were even closer than I remembered: 1980: 17-14 1981: 20-9 1982: 16-13 1983: 21-17 1984: 26-17 Guess they were all closer than SMU played TCU Friday Nite. Guess what-those SMU teams were still great and those TCU teams still suxed "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....Thank anyone was shaving points back then?
Re: Is it me or is Gary Patterson an embarrassment....As for Patterson, I've met him too and he's a nice guy away from the field, just really competitive in the arena. He's by nature a defensive coordinator who now has to be the face of the program, too.
But I imagine Patterson has never gotten over the fact he wasn't immediately given the job when Fran left. TCU looked around for a bigger name before deciding to give it to him. It's all bygones by now, I'm sure, but I bet that chip on his shoulder still motivates him. And I wouldn't be making fun of the appearance of other team's coaches when our coach wears vegetation around his neck during games, doesn't use socks, wears black sweatsuits year-round...
