Re: 35481Watching on TV, the stadium was full the berm was full the crowd was really into it and the red out numbered purple. Great showing by SMU fans. Look forward to attending my first home game against Tulsa.
Also, great job by SMU students. Let's keep this thing rolling!! Pony up! Fry Rice!!!! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: 35481would love to see this kind of crowd EVERY time we play TCU
Hopefully the guys play well from here on out and we attract high 20's for Houston other than that...
Re: 35481Great crowd. Loved seeing the south endzone hill filled. While I enjoy seeing the kids having fun on the hill most nights, the subliminal message that there were that many people who couldn't even get into the game and were willing to pay for SRO ticket could serve us very well in the future.
Funny thing was I had several people around me (on east side) saying the west side looked somewhat empty before realizing that the "red out" was actually like camo for those dressed in red against the red bleachers...
Re: 35481
Is that all their stadium holds? It looks much bigger than that. Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
Re: 35481Biggest crowd ever at Ford Stadium.. and probably more students there than ever before. The student section was full and they were the most active and involved fans in the stadium. We have to keep that up.
Re: 35481I am a little curious. I know that we are notorious for showng up late, but there were a lot of empty seats at kickoff. The grassy knoll was not well attended at kickoff. Early first quarter things started filling up. Middle first quarter place was packed, Do you think it was just a matter of traditional laziness getting to the seats or do you think people on the boulevard, after we went up 7-0, decided it might be worthwhile going inside to watch? I know that a lot of people with tickets never go inside if they can drink outside, especially if they have a tv to watch. If the game actually made them come inside the stadium, maybe they will try coming inside again. Just wondering.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: 35481It's been mentioned several times but worth repeating, the student section was fantastic. I went to the UT/UCLA game yesterday and the UT student section wasn't half as loud or into the game as ours Friday night.....granted the way UT played had a lot to do with that but I just hope the students keep showing up, and being loud.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: 35481I was in my seat prior to kickoff and for the entirty of the game so I did not witness this but I understand that SMU estimates that an additional 10k - 15k were still on the boulevard during the game. Pretty cool party!
Re: 35481
That is what irks me, 5000 people on the Blvd during normal games who don't go into stadium
Re: 35481we should start promotions for UH game from now
like the offers they did to UAB,$ 10 tickets Mustang from India
Re: 35481
Most headed to the stadium right before kickoff (myself included) and had to wait in quite a long line to get in. I was in line before the jets flew over and didn't get to my seat until SMU had the ball the second time. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: 35481I was sitting with a couple of people who weren't SMU or TCU alumni and I had mentioned before the game that it was a sellout. Early in the first quarter one of 'em turns to me and goes "Are you sure this is a sellout?" I told him that everyone was still coming in from the Boulevard and that by early second quarter it would be full. Sure enough, by then it was PACKED. Personally, I don't care if people are a little late to their seats if they actually show up.
And how 'bout Hawaiian Superstar Henry Kapono and his kick-a$$ national anthem, ehh? Ehh?
Re: 35481
I'll second that. Willie K was outstanding. Best solo acapella rendition I've ever heard at a game. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
