I know, that JJ recruited BLM to Hawaii, where pickings are slimmer than if he were say, here. with the lateness in the recruiting season upon his arrival here, he may have been somewhat better off with what he had in BLM, than whoever else remained out there. I think, BLM played relatively well, for the circumstances. His nemesis is (and, seems to still be) his wide-ranging inconsistency. I do seem to recall JJ touting his accuracy as the primary trait that attracted him.
to me, I think both JJ and Morrison realized KP's potential early on, and tried to get him ready to go as soon as was possible, especially in light of the continued erratic play of BLM into his second season. with his inexperience, KP wasn't ready at the beginning of the season. I think, even without BLM's injury, the writing was on the wall, as packages had been developed for both KP and Braden. anyway, that's how it's always bounced around in my head. I guess, we might know in about 20 years or so.[/quote]
You are correct in stating that JJ and Morrison realized very early on that KP was their QB of the future. Their problem was figuring out when he would be ready enough to play. At the time of BLM's injury the staff was still on the fence as to whether or not he was ready. He was close in their estimation. With the injury they had no choice unless they used Braden Smith which they viewed as not the best use of learning and experience. They had already determined Smith was not a QB of the future. The rest is history as the injury forced their hand. Under different circumstances they might have let BLM play out the season while red shirting KP, but it would have been tough for them to not use him in the last few games particularly when the team was not winning. Ultimately, they anticipated a battle for the starting position in the spring with KP winning out and JJ standing by this decision.
