Underclassmen in NFL Draft Diluting BCS Powerhouses?

Postby Stallion » Mon Sep 27, 2010 3:51 pm

as I look around this year I just don't see many dominant teams we used to. I think with so many underclassmen going to the NFL that there is more parity in College Football because the top schools are getting hit hard. Just looking the 2010 NFL Underclassmen you got big time programs losing some top underclassmen not to mention their seniors:

Florida 5
Oklahoma 4
USC 3
Alabama 2
Georgia Tech 4
Georgia 2
Iowa 2
Multiple other schools lost some of their best players

A lot of schools on that list have been somewhat lackluster at times this year. I realize that to a certain extent these teams just reload but when you lose so many NFL prospects before they are even Seniors it does seem to have had an effect on quality of play

well, that's pretty much the same thing that caused Butler to wind up in the National Championship game in basketball

OU might have a great shot at the National Championship with Bradford, Jermaine Gresham and Gerald McCoy-potentially 3 All-Americans. Dominique Franks was a 5th Round Draft choice as well. So are these Top teams like OU, Florida, Alabama, USC really as strong as the top teams used to be.

You can't blame these guys for leaving early though. I say, if you can make a ton of money, go to the NFL now, and forgo the risk of getting injured or having a crap season. (see Jake Locker, Matt Leinart).

Still, losing these guys to the NFL allows freshmen to come in and contribute right off the bat, which I argue helps a program 2 years down the road when these guys become Juniors.

I think the NCAA should look into this and consider giving the BCS schools some additional scholarships. Heck, just to make sure the numbers stay the same, they could take an equal number of scholarships away from the non-AQ schools.

If the NCAA could get away with it they would do it. They would say that it is a cost savings measure to help the "Mid Majors".
