Are We Sure Rice is Expecting SMU for Weekend Visit?

I think the reason you haven't seen much in the way of SMU thread on our board is that our fanbase is in sort of meltdown mode over the WAY we have played for most of this season so far, and we are all trying to figure out what is wrong with our performance rather than looking to the next game. We were expecting much better from the offense and more discipline from the team in general, so I think what your seeing is this whole discussion of Why is Rice beating Rice?
I think you'll probably start seeing some SMU game-centered threads today and leading up to the game.

As far as the game goes, if both teams continue to play at the same level as the previous games this season, SMU will win and it probably won't be close. We have been making way too many mistakles/ turnovers to beat a good team.

I think (hopefully not rose colored glasses) that we have the ability to play at a much higher level than we've shown. On the positive side, we seemed to match up physically better against Texas, Northwestern, and Baylor than we have in recent years (we haven't been manhandled- even vs. UT). Our athleticism is better across the board as Bailiff has recruited pretty well. The frustrating thing is not that we are 1-3. I think most of us would have predicted that at the beginning of the season, and hoped to steal one from either Baylor or NW. But at this point we are a bad 1-3. We have yet to get any continuity on offense, and none of our qb's (three have played) have looked good at all. Our defense and special teams are actually better than they have been for a while, but we are making some bonehead mistakes in each game that have been really costly. I also think the succession of 3 and outs and dumb turnovers by the offense has put the defense in some bad spots and they have worn down.
So, if we can eliminate a few dumb plays I think we can compete with anyone left on our schedule. If we keep playing the way we are, there is no one left that can't beat us.

I'd love to see Rice #2 in CUSA West behind us every year. Their bizarre nerddom has character and is far more interesting than the refuse at UofH.
