Sure, it's a safe bet that this book is not destined for the NYT Best Seller List - you'll agree once you note the subject matter - but it's now finally, finally completed, printed, shipped, the whole deal... and I am pumped. My dad and Dr. Peter Kornerup of Denmark have been working on this book for basically my entire life. (Hence the reason I have lived in Denmark a couple of different times, as some of you are aware.) With the first official copy arriving at my dad's office today, I figured I had to post a thread with the link. I certainly don't expect you to buy a copy, but if you do, I think I have a pretty good in on getting it signed. And, you know, to defend dear old dad - for it taking pretty much my entire life to put together - I'm guessing that when you are writing a book that's subtitled "An Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its Applications" it's going to have to be pretty slow going. My dad's email to me said that the tortoise beat the hare, in reference to my movie and his book, to which I had to retort that he had a 30 year head start. http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Arithme ... 087&sr=1-1... I'm guessing that for most of us that this book will likely be the definition of "read it and weep" ... by that I mean, unless you are the target audience, read it and weep over your lack of comprehension. Sigh. Anyway, regardless of it being way too long in the coming, I'm extremely proud of my pops, and he's none too aware of the fact that it's long overdue himself. This can be witnessed by the fact that he told me recently that he had uncovered his official sabbatical request to the university (SMU) for the school year of 1989/90 ... and it read that the purpose of his trip was to FINISH the book he was writing with Dr. Peter Kornerup. Side note: That was a very special year for me.... and I am glad that I had a few summers in Denmark after that. (That year I went to a school in Denmark that had been around since before our country had been founded. Helluva' building. Helluvan' experience. Think Hogwarts on a smaller and less bizarre scale. Plus, I didn't have to endure 95-21 in person... though, through my movie, I have had to endure it a number of times every week of late.)

Without giving anything away, does the book talk about the death penalty and how it came about?

Oh, absolutely! It talks about how the computer science department at SMU was absolutely complicit in diverting badly needed department funds to car dealerships, department stores, restaurants, realtors, etc. in an elaborate scheme to thwart the NC2A, The Dallas Times Herald, Dale, and The Dallas Morning News. Sadly it didn't work. ... Uh, in short, no. It's all about math.

Is there a fold out of a hot Danish chick?
Work with me . I need a reason to buy it other than just math. I did not learn enough to understand it and I am too old to learn it.

Oh yeah! And she's absolutely unbelievable! ... as in, she's absolutely don't believe what I am saying because she's not in there!... However, I understand that there is a full color fold out of the Playmath of the year.

Joking aside, congrats to your dad. Accomplishing a life long dream is a landmark event.
Tell him to get started on the sequel.

I pulled out my calculus textbook awhile back. I had no clue how to solve any of those problems. And I passed the course back in the day. But my Spanish has improved. I now know what the word "cervesa" means.

I'll take "dos" (and not the MS version).
