FWIW

As of 9/26 Sagrin ratings

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt10.htm

SMU #77 @ 69.77
Rice #122 @ 59.61

So, using rounding to get to whole numbers

SMU 70

SMU (2-2) at Rice (1-3) Oct. 2, 7:00 ET

Here’s The Deal … Now that SMU has taken swings at two Lone Star State heavyweights, Texas Tech and TCU, it’s time to turn its attention to the business of Conference USA. While the Mustangs acquitted themselves rather well against the Red Raiders and Horned Frogs, they simply didn’t have enough depth or talent to deliver the upset. Not to worry. Now battle-tested and confident, they’ll shift their focus to league play and scaling the West Division ladder. Rice, too, played outside its weight class in September, losing to Texas, Northwestern, and Baylor last Saturday. If the Owls are going to rebound from a slow start, as they’ve done in recent years, it has to start this weekend. If they can’t protect their home turf, a winning season is off the table.

Why SMU Might Win: Although the bottom hasn’t fallen out, the Rice defense is enduring a lot of the problems it’s had in recent years, namely stopping the pass. Mustang QB Kyle Padron won’t have much of a pass rush to contend with, getting the time he needs to check down and find receivers Aldrick Robinson, Darius Johnson, and Cole Beasley. Making matters worse for the Owls is the new-found punch being provided by the SMU ground game. Beefy Zach Line is an improbable No. 2 in the league in rushing, going for 139 yards and a touchdown against a very stingy TCU defense.

Why Rice Might Win: While the Owls have made some progress on defense, it remains too leaky, especially in the red zone. In order to pull an upset, it’ll have to rely on the offense to locate a spark. It’s time for the offense to begin clicking and cutting down on costly mistakes. QB Nick Fanuzzi, in particular, has to make better decisions and better use of his weapons in order to maintain his spot atop the depth chart. It would help to get more touches for TE Luke Willson and RB Sam McGuffie, two of the best playmakers on this side of the ball.

What To Watch Out For: If SMU LB Ja’Gared Davis keeps this up, he’s going to play his way to Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year honors. A frenetic defender, who can drop back into coverage or put his hand in the turf, he’s become a force of nature for the Mustangs. He already has nine tackles for loss and four sacks, making at least two stops behind the line in every game.

What Will Happen: The records are similar. The teams are not. This is where SMU and Rice begin going in disparate directions. The Mustangs are playing with far better execution on offense and have more playmakers on defense. They’ll force Fanuzzi into mistakes, giving Padron and Line the opportunities they need to fuel a one-sided victory.

CFN Prediction: SMU 38 … Rice 20 … 5Dimes.com Line: SMU -12.5
Must See Rating: Katy Perry on Sesame Street - 5 … Eastbound & Down - 1 … 2

CFN thinks we are almost on par with Eastbound & Down. I'll take it!

I want to be on par with the Sopranos. Then that will be a true home field advantage.
