Grandson of SMU 47 Captain Sid Halliday

Post by Sid1947 »

Sid Halliday graduate of Bishop Lynch in 2002, grandson of Sid Halliday ponies 1947 football captain will be attending the University of Arkansas @ Monticello and playing football as a kicker. Sid was recently an All State Soccer player on the TAPPS 5A Champions Bishop LYnch Friars. He played soccer his freshman college season at The University of the Ozarks in Arkansas. Switching to football and kicker for his grandfathers old alma mater would make many of tose '47 Mustangs smile. Good Luck Sid. Like former pony Daniel Hernandez, Sid can kick them either right or left footed. He also hold a soccer grade school area record of 258 career goals for his Parochial League.

As a boy in San Antonio, I followed the 1947 SMU team. Here's to the greatest generation, in war and peace, and on the grid iron.

Wow! Wouldn't it be something if we were to get Sid Halliday's grandson on the same SMU football team with Doak Walker's grandson (Ryan Wolcott)? And they'd BOTH be kickers!!!!!

True. But Sid and those other Mustangs of the late 40s were seasoned WWII vets and they'd kick anyone's a** that got in their way! Truly, they were "The Greatest Generation"!!!!!!! :D

Thanks for the words about those "47 Mustangs. And although Sid will be going to the University of Arkansas @ Monticello this year I am hoping Coach Bennett will contact me about next year. And yes that would be neat seeing Ryan and Sid together in 2005. Couldn't you picture Sid and Doak looking down from heaven smiling about their grandsons? By the time Sid went to SMU he had beefed up to 195lbs playing both offensive and defensive end. 155lbs was from his skinny high school years where another former Mustang Red Maley was Woordrow's Quarterback.
