DMN: SMU-UNT in 2006?
I'm sure we've all read the article in today's SportsDay. Now, can I make a request that we're spared the gratuitious lobbying by all the pro-UNT types? Bennett said the right diplomatic things about UNT in the article; let's leave it at that.

My guess is the 2005 OSU date. Since it is a home game for us, we can drop OSU without penalty. We will already have TCU, Baylor at home, and we probably will have UTEP and Rice, if we carry over the WAC schedule to CUSA. So attendance that year should be okay. Personally, if we want to get a game we can for sure win to give the team some confidence, we ought to choose a team that really stinks. UNT may be beatable, but they don't stink. Pick a 1-AA team like TSU.

How many C-USA games will we have? Or, maybe 1 of those years is an 11 game schedule right now that could go to 12.
Presumably 8. 5 intra division (assuming 12 teams) and three cross-divisional games. With three games, there has been some movement to name a permanent cross-divisional opponant (Eg. Tulane-USM). I suspect the old six teams will get first dibs which makes sense. Newbies will get what's left. We may end up with Marshall, ECU, or UCF. If I were to choose, I'd choose Marshall out of that bunch because they would probably draw the best in Dallas.

What makes no sense is trying to build a program and a fan base when you start every year with 3-4 guaranteed loses. In this town, if you don't have some postiive buzz you are a non starter- and that has described us every year for as long as I can remember - even the best of programs blend a tough, a medium and a sure win for their OC schedule.
By the way, we tried to get out of OSU this year and could not. Yes we need butts in seats, but at this point we need wins more so we can build our own fans instead of selling our sole to get everybody elses fans in our stadium.

I know where you are coming from, but giving up home games you have already gone on the road to get is giving up alot. TCU would love to be able to get OSU at home. The best way to get your own fans out is to sock Ok State in the mouth and win the game, not to duck them and beat Cal State Northridge 70-7 in a game no one care about. SMU already plays several conference game per year that no one cares about.
Non-interest in UNT
UNT may want a piece of SMU, but I am not motivated to come in from out of town for such a game. I don't mind that we are going to schedule the Eagles if that is what the schedule requires. There are other teams that I would rather see.
