They probably got rid of it because they realized people were drinking themselves to death because they couldn't bare to watch the mustangs lose...little did they know people would just start sneaking in flasks of whiskey.

just kidding :)

I've heard from Turner numerous times that they have enough problems as is with TABC and the boulevard. He says they have been close to shutting it down numerous times...a few years back, he even asked several student leaders, myself included, to drag people off the boulevard if they were too drunk. I've see him go up to people himself and ask them to leave or stop drinking (pretty funny seeing the look on a student's face when the president comes up to them and they are hammered.) Isn't there some NCAA regulation banning alcohol sales at on-campus stadiums anyway? not sure.

I wouldn't bet on this happening anytime soon. This TABC problem, along with the UP legal aspect, make it a hard sell to the university. Although, I would loveeee it and use it often.

was there alcohol? All I remember was Plucker's wings, Jerry Bennett giving a pre-game talk, and everyone piling in to watch the Texas-Ohio State game while our game was at half.

Pretty sure they had beer. But regardless, the Mustang Club site on the Blvd has beer. What is the difference in where it is now and having one inside the stadium. Are there specific stadium rules? That I do not know. Also, I believe the beer is gratis which could make a difference but could surely increase Mustang Club membership if you needed to join in order to get a beer or two. You could allow more beers for higher donation level.

But let me remain on record as one that does not think we need to have alcohol in the stadium in order to attract fans. I go to the game to see the game. Party before and party after but I like the game itself and that is my purpose for going into the stadium and staying for all 4 quarters and halftime.

Agreed. Serving beer in the stadium is not going to attract more fans. It might, however, solve part of the in and out debacle at halftime. I think most people leaving want to grab a beer outside before the second half.

Rice could have a nice stadium if they did a few upgrades.
Thought it was interesting they didn't charge for parking in that big arse parking lot of theirs. I'm glad they didn't but seems like they leave a lot of money on the table.
Chick-fil-a, papa johns, beer garden, and marble slab - all pluses.

Thanks SAM, but not really ,just thought it would add to the game day experience....haven't seen you yet at the SMU games...hope to see you soon!

This Corral idea and if it was a Mustang Club deal several years ago, was just too early...it would work now because the comradarie for fans has really begun to gell.

A highlight of when we played UNLV in the Sam Boyd Silver Bowl was the full bar service in the concession area.

back in the day...our games at Texas Stadium featured pre-game and post-game visits to the Club area behind the end zone. Of course, those who participated were often late getting to their seats if they came out at all. Would be nice if Ford could do that for those not fortunate enough to have spots on the Blvd. As I recall, it was for Mustang Club members and their guests
