This is a surreal story... Here is what really happened... The daughter knows her Mom is a harpy. She needed an excuse not to spend time with her - Dad gave the knowing nod and wink because the Mrs. has made him unhappy for 24 1/2 years. In fairness, if any of our mothers was crazy enough to have sent this letter we would make excuses not to spend time with her too. She made up a story about how one of our innocent students hassled her so she could escape.

It is a tragedy really. The poor princess should have more compassion regarding her mother's mental impairments. Our shoulders are broad enough to withstand this slight. We are strong enough to be the bigger people.

Daughter just wanted an excuse to have some private time with her boyfriend while Mom and Dad were at the game. The girl may have a promising career as an actress.

Never saw so much indignant response to a DMN letter to the editor, which everyone would have quickly forgotten had it not been for the posters here. Is there such a thing as being too sensitive?

Most of the people that responded on the DMN site are not affiliated with SMU

Case in point the letter. None of the posters here are being sensitive, we are laughing at this woman and her family.

I hate to be Captain Obvious, Bob Costas, all of these posts are not because we are too sensitive. If fact we are fairly jaded by comparison. We are laughing at this woman and her daughter whose tender sensibilities couldn't survive Ford Stadium. Let's be honest - The crowd at Ford is fairly docile compared to most other places. Mrs. Johnson, through her letter, has become our comic relief.

I have to fess up, my date to the game was a Zeta from TCU.

the funny thing is that when I was taking her by some TCU guys on the way to our spot on the blvd they were legitimately pissed.

moral is, steal their women too.

Kick their [deleted] on the field, off the field, then take their women. That's the way to do it.

I am ordering sensitivity training for all posters on this thread. This poor girl could be scarred for life and have nightmares for many years. It is important for all to appreciate the trauma she apparently suffered. The attitudes hereon are appalling.

thank goodness she has never been to, Tex-OU, Tex-A&M, OU-OSU, Tech-A&M, or Baylor-A&M or she might have died of rudeness...all venomous rivalries...i mean the list of other heated rivalries around the country is just so damned long and make ours look like we're having a water balloon fight. (which would be awesome, btw)

my date had that concern, and I told her strait up, you might get a couple looks but no one is really gonna ride you ( :) ) or be really mean except for a crude joke or two perhaps. Turns out, it was even more mild than I expected and we were at the considerably more inebriated part of the BLVD.

I don't know what happened to this whiner, I'm sure she heard a few colorful remarks, but they have to present more than vagaries about general rudeness. Welcome to sports in America, where we get slightly (looking at you '94) off balance before every game and throw our heart and soul into our team.

I suggest when KNOWINGLY entering into a hostile environment that she become familiar w/ the term collateral damage. If her fragile psyche cannot handle a highly emotionally charged event, she should know better. I'm tired of playing to the lowest common denominator, know your limits and be responsible for knowing what you can handle and what you cannot, I certainly do.
