Katy Trail Jogger was SMU Alum's Daughter

Postby DiamondM75 » Tue Oct 05, 2010 12:25 pm

The jogger (Lauren Huddleston) that was hit by a bicycle causing her fall and fatal head injury was the daughter of a Mustang Band alum and current Alumni Band member. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

However, all is not tragic. Lauren was an organ donor and because of her gifts, today four people are enjoying longer and healthier lives.
Just send 'da money.

Way to look at it positively...a shame...But I have been in both positions on the Katy Trail and the White Rock Trail....It can be dangerous. RIP Lauren...

Everytime I rode Katy I hovered the brakes... it's way more dangerous than White Rock. Way too congested.

The Lord's blessing for this family, especially during this time.

Hindsight is 20/20, but there's a seperate pedestrian trail, no need for runners and bikers to be in the same place.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

Correct. The problem is the recreational walkers getting in the way of the runners. Peds far out number cyclists, so I really don't have a problem with more advanced runners sharing the cycling lane if they pay attention, stay right, and maintain predictability. IMO, a cyclist needs to be paying 100 times the attention a runner does. Faster moving, more weight -- it's very similar to a car.

This was an incredibly unfortunate accident. No one to blame.

Also: the trail isn't 100% separated. It is mostly, though.
