Just a Heads up when Fans leave early...

Postby ponyscott » Tue Oct 05, 2010 12:26 pm

I know we are all proud of what is going on with the Stangs and we all like to stay and honor the team....BUT when someone leaves early there may be something else going on in their life, and they are not trying to being rude to the team......or the Fans that are staying to the end.
I gave my 4 tickets to a friend for the TCU game on the proviso that he promised he would root/cheer for SMU and make certain he brought fans that would root/cheer for SMU as well to the TCU game. The tickets/seats are in 103 down low. My friend had to leave early as his son was sick and at least one fan was rude about why he would leave the game early on his way up the asle...really snide attacking comments that he took offense to. This was guests first experience at an SMU game and it wasn't a good way to leave.
I also had to leave a game early recently as my wife was bugging me to death ( for whatever reason?)and on the way up the isle someone said something similar...i can handle it and joked and pointed at my wife as the idiot, but I see no reason to belittle someone because they may leave early sometimes.
I always try to stay to the end to hear the band and sing the alma mater, but sometimes........
Just sayin....

Understand but its 'one fan at a time' and we want the experience to be good, so they come back...

And some of us do not live in the Park Cities or plan to spend the post game partying since we have church activities in the morning.

Sorry.

There should be shame in leaving early. I like that people say something. We should expect more from our fans. When I leave early i will expect some ribbing and wont have thin skin about it.

yeah some ribbing is okay i guess. Starting mid-4th quarter, or sooner, youngest RGV Pony and I usually migrate to different parts of the stadium to maintain his interest level. As Mestengo and ponyscott will attest, I need to drag him out of his shell. So, bring on the good natured ribbing, just don't be surprised if you get a "suck it" in response...all in good humor, of course

What bugs me more is the fans that don't show up until the 2nd qtr.

SMU fans are completely intolerable, rude and hate snuggling with teddy bears.. I just can't take it anymore.
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Ribbing is one thing. I doubt ponyscott would go to the trouble of posting this if it were just good-natured ribbing.

Don't be rude or berate people for leaving early. You have no idea their reasons for leaving. And it's really none of your damn business.

If you can stay for an entire game and congratulate the team at the end, consider yourself lucky. Not everyone has that luxury.

Until college football figures out a way to keep the games to three hours or less, I don't fault anyone for leaving early. The games are ridiculously long compared to what they were 20, even 10 years ago.

Thanks, believe me if it was 'good natured' ribbing, this would not be a post. It was a nasty verbal attack with no smiling, that really made our guests irritated.
No biggie if I EVER have to leave early and someone did it to me I would just say SHOVE IT. But you never know who you may be antagonizing and if they ever come back to an SMU game because of the bad karma..

Sorry ...enough of this.....JUST FRIGGIN STAY ----UNTIL THE LIGHTS ARE ALL OFF!!!!!!!

My two sons and I usually leave our seats with a few minutes left in the game and go stand under the scoreboard and watch the last of the game there. We have a 2-3 hour drive ahead of us to get back to East Texas and can't stay around and let the traffic get built up. Lots of reasons people leave early. At this point in time just be thankful they came in the first place.
When will I start feeling stimulated??

The people next to me show up late, have no clue what is going on, spill stuff, cram extra people in their seats and then usually leave in the 3rd quarter. I have no idea why they even bother.
