Coaches: Excerpt from DMN

Post by PerunaPunch »

This from an interview with UNT's head coach:

Some names that were tossed around Monday by the dwindling number of people who care about Mustangs football anymore were former Cowboys defensive back Charlie Waters and Oklahoma passing game coordinator Chuck Long. I'd take the latter, or Long colleague and offensive coordinator Mark Mangino, over Waters. Waters isn't even in coaching anymore.

But if a splash is a high priority, Copeland ought to consider that Grambling coach Doug Williams confided to a TV crew last week that he'd be interested in stepping up to SMU.

Mangino is a great coach and a great recruiter. Kids play their hearts out for him and tell anyone who will listen that they'd go to war for him. He'd be a great hire.

As much as it pains me to say it, SMU would be a drastic step down for Mangino. There are far greener pastures for that guy.
