Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOW
So you don't have any proof and the NCAA couldn't prove it yet you know for sure? Okay...
So you're just repeating rumors and complaints that sound like sour grapes.
He took a $35M offer from the NFL. NFL teams had approached him in previous years, so it wasn't a surprise to anyone who followed the program. If leaving after '06, '07 or '08 makes more sense to you, then you need to ask him.
For NCAA violations involving multiple programs, including football and men's basketball.
Ask the NCAA.
The only issue I recall with extra assistant coaches was the special teams consultant Carroll hired. If you are claiming USC had 10 more coaches than the allowable limit, then you should be talking with the NCAA.
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWI thought that one of the issues concerning USC was that they had a person that they deemed to be an assitant coach. If I am wrong I am sorry. But, if you beleive Carroll didn't see the writing on the wall and didn't begin the process to seek out another opportunity, then I believe you are wrong.
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOW
Carroll absolutely knew that the hammer was going to be dropped on USC. I know you are from Cali, and are probably a USC fan, CA Mustang, but to say Carroll left for the money is crap. He knew his shenanigans would not last long, and sanctions would halt his success. Added to it, the rest of the Pac-10 began to catch up to USC, namely Oregon. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWI forgot to include my major point--USC threw their basketball program under the bus hoping football would escape. They did know their violations and exposure in football was far worse--it didn't work--to this I do have personal knowledge. The rest is logical speculation, which along with opinion, rumor, and humor makeup 97% of this board's content.
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWThere are a couple of easy solutions to this problem to at least stem this problem. I don't think the problem will ever go away.
1) Tie the sanctions to both the Program and the Head Coach. If Butch Davis leaves UNC, then his new program receives the same sanctions that UNC receives. If Pete Carroll returns to the NCAA, then his new school receives the same sanctions that USC has. Head Coaches will no longer turn a blind eye towards what is going on in their programs. Institutional controls will no longer be a problem. 2) Have the NCAA negotiate with the NFL and NFLPA. If an agent gets caught paying a player he loses his certification to negotiate with the NFL. If they don't agree, then prohibit NFL Scouts access to players on campuses. The NFL wants and needs that access to really evaluate talent. A deal can be reached. If a coach or assistant coach is caught steering players then they have the sanctions travel with them. It will never stop the problem, but it will minimize the worst behavoir. Like SMU getting the DP to clean up the entire SWC. Last edited by stc9 on Wed Oct 13, 2010 2:59 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWCA Mustang, I appologize. Your frustration with USC's sanctions is as great as mine over SMU's. I didn't realize you were a fan and supporter, I only thought you were disagreeing with my right to have an opinion, whether based on fact, simple logic or stories related to me by major supporters of other Pac Ten schools. There is no way I can win this debate any more than someone trying to tell me that in the eighties, the rest of the SWC and OU weren't playing the same recruiting game. Sorry to have opened this can of whip-ass.
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWI have often wondered where the IRS has been on all this? If a kid without income drives a new car, if an agent receives money back on a personal advance is this being reported? Now that it has been exposed are they assessing penalties?
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWHaving the penalty follow the coach sounds nice, but I think there is sort of an unwritten NCAA enforcement rule about that. After Tark went to Fresno State, NCAA Investigators miraculously started finding dirt on that program. I would say that hiring a coach with violations issues is an invitation to an NCAA investigator party at your school.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWThis is all just great promo for The Thadsta's "PONY EXCE$$".
ESPN is probably just doing this as an advertising ploy for the post-Heisman "30 for 30" by our very own ponyfan! ![]() BTW USC IS INNOCENT! EVERYBODY ELSE IS JUST JEALOUS! ![]() SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN
FIRE JUNE JONES ![]() USC Trojan for Life and SMU Dad!
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWYou people are crazy if you seriously want the NCAA to spend all of its time tracking down every college star that gets money from street agents. Routinely imposing sanctions against each school based upon the violations of individual players would do great harm to college football.
I dare anyone to read that article and then rationally come to the conclusion that say Whats Amatter U. should be subject to Severe NCAA penalties such as the Death Penalty for the sleazy activities of street agents with no affiliation with a university. (yes if proven that the use of street agents were condoned and directed by university officials as a part of the RECRUITMENT of student athletes-not just a rouge coach)-then I might feel differently. To impose heavy sanctions against every school that has a stud NFL prospect that is taking money from these self-dealing sleazeball scum agent who have no affiliation or love for a program is not fair to the fans, alumni and the universities of the 40-50 teams that would be sanctioned. The NCAA should be very careful in imposing severe NCAA sanctions upon a school for the individual violations of the players themselves-unless direct school involvement at high levels and a competitive advantage in shown. I'm not sure if the NCAA has the ability to strongly enforce and deter 99% of these violations. The main focus of the NCAA should be the illegal recruitment and inducement of prospective recruits. In the event that the NCAA decides to continue to enforce this area, NCAA violations should be focused solely on the role university officials played in allowing the cheating and not generally on the broader illegal inducements given by the agents to the players. The conduct of street agents should be enforced by developing professional standards of conduct within the professional agent community and/or under state law-just like with physicians, lawyers, accountants etc. "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOWWere you really surprised that a Butch Davis program might benefit from this grey area? Any insight as to the IRS? If I received benefits to the extent the Bush family did and never reported them, I would be in Seagoville, learning to play tennis.
Re: Confessions of a former NFL Agent WOW
Only Carroll knows what he knows. Considering NFL teams had courted him before and his stated desire to go back to the NFL to "finish what he started", his leaving wasn't that big of a surprise, regardless of the timing. It makes me wonder how the entire situation would be viewed if Carroll hadn't left and was still the coach at USC today.
