If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCThere's a lot of speculation that the Big East will invite TCU in the coming months (along with possibly Kansas, K-State, and/or Missouri). If this happens, my thoughts are that the MWC, which would not want to lose exposure in Texas, and is still trying to earn AQ status, would invite SMU to replace TCU.
SMU football is about where TCU was 10 years or so ago. Good coach, good recruiting, and a lot of potential. Great football history to build on. And the media markets and academics of both schools are pretty much identical. I think this would be a good move for SMU. Boise State, Air Force, Nevada, and Fresno are much better competition than the top teams of C-USA. The bowl games are better. SMU would get more national coverage. And there's always hope for an AQ bid. Just curious what yall thought.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCI don't think we're ten years behind TCU, let's see what happens next fall in Amon Carter.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCI see your point but it's not the same conference without you, BYU, and Utah. It wouldn't become an AQ conference, and so it wouldn't make sense for us. Travel costs skyrocket, exposure drops to nil, and absolutely no natural rivalries. Even if they offered now, with you, it wouldn't make sense unless it came with an Automatic Bid.

Go Away...
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCnuts...just plain nuts.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCWhy would Kansas, K-State, and Missouri leave one unstable conference for another unstable conference that is further away?
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCwhen you leave we should invite boise. after tcu, utah and byu leave there isn't anything left in the mwc worth joining except boise. nevada is a joke in the top 25. we destroyed them in the hawaii bowl.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCOutside of the increased costs, the time zones, the poor TV revenue package, lack of rivalry, we would have to try to make a second deal with many of the same devils that blew us off last time. I still find it hard to believe that you people trusted BYU and Utah a second time! By the way your academics and market demographics do not compare to SMU's.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCI thought the Big 12 leftover 10 signed a Contract which had prohibitive exit clauses in the first 5 years. Ink not dry? Big 12 ain't going to split this soon-it may split but not yet.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCfroggies better not get their hopes up

Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCI can't even get excited about the MWC. Let's not do another WAC. I like the games against Conf USA so much better especially the local teams Houston, Tulsa, Rice, Tulane.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCThis speculation isn't even worth the comment.
MWC is a loser without the Utah schools. SMU needs to stay as far away from that Train Wreck as possible! SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN

Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCTCU is in a great position, as long as:
-SMU and other opponents on the schedule keep winning/higher rating/ranking/record... -the Frogs keep winning... -the Big 12(-2) does not implode... -the Big East remains/continues a march this season (and the last few) to football oblivion... -the MWC flirts with relevance as a football conference on the national scene by having a member bounce the BCS party.. Any one of the above that fail to meet their full potential means trouble for the Frogs, and any other team that is outside the AQ cabal. SMU has one immediate goal to reach its potential for this year...keep winning. I like where we are positioned at this time, in this conference...we need to prove we can be successful here before the talk goes too much further about 'where will we go next?' TCU chose to do that 12 years ago, we did two years ago. We are (IMO) much further along than the 10 year gap mentioned by our Pollywog friends. Rebuilding this program seems so much like watching a youngster discover the joy of growing up, and seeing the world as a great place to conquer. Baby steps completed last year...toddler steps taken at the Hawaii Bowl...This year is time to put on the 'big boy' pants. end of wax-lyrical rant... stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWC
Agreed. If the MWC doesn't include TCU and Utah, then I'm not a bit interested in moving unless CUSA starts to crumble around us. And I don't think the MWC becomes an AQ conference with that new setup, either. It's a lot easier to get to our current away games in CUSA West than it would be in whatever's left of the MWC.
Re: If TCU goes to Big East, then SMU would go to the MWCAnother kitten dies. I'm sure the MWC would invite SMU, UH and any other team with a pulse to join if TCU left. Then we're back in the WAC. No thanks. I'd rather stay where we are and perhaps talk to MWC about a shared championship game, or combining into a 24 team super conference adding one team like La. Tech or College and University of North Texas, or JJ's favorite Hawaii(who is mulling independence). Keeping divisional play and have a two round championship and drop the 12th regular season game.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
