I've been away for awhile. But I've been monitoring the situation from afar. And when I got the word on Monday that Coach Cavan was on his way out, all I could say was "It's about time!" and that my prayers had been answered.
Look, I'm sure Mike Cavan is a fine person. I have no animosity towards the man personally. But he should have NEVER been hired to be the head coach of the SMU Mustangs. I wish him well in his future endeavours wherever they may be. Now the questions are: will SMU recover from the Cavan years? How much damage did his failed program do to the Mustangs? Did it damage us even more than the dreaded DP?
Also, who will be the next head coach of the SMU Mustangs? Does the AD already have someone in mind? Or will this be a 'quick' search since spring training will be here before you know it!
I'd be interested in seeing which current and former football coaches and/or players the fans of SMU would like to see courted to take SMU to a new level of play in Ford Stadium.
As always: GO MUSTANGS!!!!

Re: The next coach
that's right - this 'search' is SO CRITICAL for our future - especially @ this point in time...
i just hope copeland makes the right-gut choice v. going with public opinion on who the next coach should & will be - especially after reading all this stuff about charlie waters & all these other 'perfect' choices for the job ... to follow the alumni base is too easy of a cop-out to blame it on them versus himself - then we lose out on the next conference shuffle for sure ...
i think we've all had enough of 'public opinion polls' especially after the last 8 yrs!!!
