Coaching Prospects - Let's Debate

Post by smu'06 »

Doug Williams- Grambling:
Pro's - Name Recognition; Good Job at Grambling, remember he replaced a legend, and has done a good job. Interest in the job. Can connect with recruits. Will attract national attention
Con's - No D-1A Coaching Experience.

Steve Spurrier Jr. OU-
Pro's: Name, OU Experience, National attention.
Con's: Lack of true coaching experience.

Gene Stallings - ex-'Bama:
Pro's: In Dallas, Coached at 'Bama
Con's: Fired at 'Bama

Andy McCullom - Middle Tenn.:
Pro's: Respectable job at MTSU
Con's: Let's replace Mike Cavan with Mike Cavan

Bruce Chambers - UT:
Pro's: UT, Knows the Dallas recruiting game
Con's: Graduated from UNT - Not well known

Turner Gil - Nebraska:
Pro's: Has ties to SMU, Recruits Texas for NU, Experience
Con's: Not well known (name recognition)

Jeff Horton - Wisconsin:
Pro's: Experience - not head coaching
Con's: Wisconsin is his first winning program. To me a better candidate for Nevada.

John Pearce - UCLA:
Pro's: Knows Texas
Con's: Lack of experience at College Coaching

Mark Mangino - OU
Pro's: Proven Success, Asst. HC at OU
Con's: Would he come to the Hilltop?

I really like Bruce Chambers, But I think Doug Williams would be a dynamite hire. Would love to see him in Dallas.

I will put my vote in for John Pearce. Born ans raised in Texas,Graduate East Texas State, coached HS ball in Texas won a couple of 5-A state titles here was 5-a coach of the year one of his teams was rated #2 in the nation, coached at A&M when they won three titles,Head Coach at SF Austin and his teams went to the playoffs 5 times, had winning records 5 of 7 years,His teams were in the top 25 for 5 straight years, only team in Texas that can say that.Coaching at ULCA now,the Qb's,and he still recruits Texas and I think he just got a comittment from the Lufkin Qb for UCLA.He has everthing we are looking for, success at every level, coached both sides of the ball, been with big programs, knows the ins and outs of Texas recruits and can sell the University(john could sell eyeglasses to a blind man).Tell me what more would you want in a coach.
