Bill ForanWord floating around today in Snyder Plaza has Bill Foran transfering back to SMU from Purdue. Anyone hear anything about this? From rags to riches maybe (re: QB's).
Is it April Fool's? I didn't think we were in the running when he came out of high school. He was a terrific QB at HPHS, but wasn't he being moved to WR in college? Or did he pick Purdue because they were going to play him at QB? I'd find it hard to believe we'd add two HPHS QBs in a month, but it couldn't hurt the attendance, and to have more folks around town flaunting their (newfound) allegiance to SMU!
Well, I did some scouring and found this post on the ESPN College Football Board.
well the news around purdue is that redshirt freshman QB Bill foran is leaving Purdue. Its too bad because he was just switched to RB and was doing realy well. Would have been interesting to have a RB/QB and a QB on the field at the same time. Good luck Bill. FYI he will probably go to an IVY league school(Rice). Its where he was going to go if he had not chosen Purdue. So this may be legit. Here's the link to the thread. http://boards.espn.go.com/cgi/ncaa/requ ... irstThread
Re:
we may need some more RB help with some iffy production from our star RB recruit last year. Foy should be good, but that is a 1 year guy.
He may be relatively slow. Not sure about that. But the kid is 6'1" and 200+ pounds. Plenty big enough.
Having said all this, agreed that he'd not be likely to replace Foy Munlin. If he's coming here, I'm sure it's to compete at QB.
This report is now confirmed by the Purdue Student newspaper. He definitely wants to play QB and will probably consider Ivy League of Texas private schools. He's always listed at about 6-3,210 nut at the Nike Camp in summer before his senior year he was actually measured as 6-1.5, 4.53 which should be accurate as of that date. He ain't considered slow for a QB and as I remember was an outstanding running QB. Think his accuracy was outstanding-I seem to remember him hitting on the 65-70% of his passes including 17 or something in a row in a Game. He had one game which blew everybody's socks off. Foran's stock may have risen faster than any player in the country in 2003 and was even rated a 4 star by Insiders and 3 stars by Rivals. To compare( in the "Athletic QB Category" he was rated higher than TCU recruit James Battle by Max Emfinger(6 stars) and even with Battle by the Insiders. Was rated well ahead of both Meeks and Phillips by all services. He had offers from major schools like Illinois, Ga Tech, Purdue but also Princeton and Harvard.
Stallion......he truly did have a great senior year at HP. Check these incredible stats-115 of 172 for 1814 yards with an outstanding 66.9 completion percentage and about 16 yards per completion. TD/INT ratio outstanding with 16 TDs and only 1 INT. The kid can run too-1014 yards on 136 carries for an incredible(for a QB) 7.5 average with another 21 running TDs.
My gut tells me he would be the highest rated QB at SMU in 30 years and we'd be idiots not to try and get a top guy from our neighborhood. Once again I could care less how many other QBs are on campus-the roster of QBs change weekly. Why in the hell would a home town hero QB from HP want to go to Rice and run the wishbone when he could go to SMU and chase HP and SMU girls around campus. He didn't chose to run the wishbone at Purdue-our offenses are similar.
