Bennett would do a back flip if he came here - those recruiting snub stories go around every year with every prospect - its all spin control - Foran wants to come here and he is here - I just don't think he comes here as a RB.
Re:
So you're saying it's a done deal? Wow. Not ssure I'm ready to believe it, but it has its appeal. I saw this kid play in high school, and let me tell you, he's a very intriguing athlete. He's fast -- not a 4.2 guy, but he won't get caught from behind by most defenders -- and very fluid/smooth. For what it's worth, I'd guess that if he ends up here, it would be as a wide receiver or safety. He could make the switch -- he's a terrific overall athlete.
I saw Foran play in at HP and he is more of an athlete than a quarterback. He is a white Chris Phillips without the size. I think he would be a very good addition at WR for SMU, but I don't know how much of an improvement he would make our QB position. You can't look at his HP stats because every QB that has come through under Coach Allen has put up big numbers. Maybe at Purdue he has improved as a passer, but that is doubtful considering the position change to running back.
He was recruited to play QB by Purdue, but was told by many people (incl. SMU) that he would never be able to play QB (arm strength), Purdue offered him a 'chance' just to sign him, then moved him to RB.
Here is a case where being honest was the best policy. The kid was a less than respectful to SMU, I don't think we'd take him. Last edited by GoRedGoBlue on Tue May 25, 2004 7:50 am, edited 1 time in total.
I would think if he's that talented, maybe it's worth the risk. A lot of college players were dubbed "stars" in high school, without the maturity to handle that tag. Somehow I would bet that if he was buried on the depth chart at Purdue, he might have had a nice helping of humble pie by now. If that's the case, maybe we can find a place for a great athlete? How many positions could he seriously play?
I would be cautious on claiming anyone was a jerk unless you were there. At all schools, the coaches get caught up in the recruiting process, and there is enough sour grapes to fill up barrells of wine by the time everyone is finished.
If we have a place for Foran and he wants to come here I am sure he will be welcome.
Put me on the record as having no problem filling a team with a bunch of "jerks" if they're talented as long as they stay out of trouble. If a kid's worst fault is an attitude, sign him up and give him a uniform.
Ditto. Give me a team full of guys with a 'tude, as long as they have the game to back up that swagger.
Yeah, you'd just love to have a ton of Randy Moss's on the team, sprinkle in some Latrell Sprewells, and throw in some coke lovin' Hollywood Hendersons.
No distruptions. No distractions to the team, because they are all excellent players. DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that Bill Foran is anything like this, I am just countering the above posted few comments. From what I heard, Mr. Foran is a very nice, intelligent young man. I only heard that he was less than humble during his recruiting process. The main point is, what position would he play at SMU to afford a scholarship? RB? We all know that he isn't going to play QB at SMU, which is what HE wants to play. Therefore, I doubt he will come to SMU, and I doubt there is a position that he makes us better at.
Scholarship RBs returning in 2005, after Munlin graduates: Richuel Massey, Cedrick Dorsey, DeMyron Martin, Jessie Henderson, Andrew McKinney, C.D. Moss, and I think one or two more. Can Foran crack that rotation? That's a pretty stout bunch of athletes.
