A+

Now the question is, would JJ run up the score like that if he could?

I'm generally not a run the score up guy. Against Houston and Baylor, I make exceptions. So, the answer to your question is...

No, unfortunately, he wouldn't.

Well. The Rice game was weird.

1st half, again on the road we come out flat.

Piland throws a INT on the first possession. We keep Rice in check then they go for it on 4th down (in fact, they went for it almost on every 4th down with nothing to lose). Boom 6-0.

Next possession. Nothing with our new QB. Boom Rice gets the ball back. A couple of horrid calls (PI and personal foul) keeps Rice with the ball. Eventually they score. 13-0

3rd possession. We find our balls, look like the old Coog. 13-7

Then we can't cover TEs. Soon the score is 27-7. Coog fans are leaving. We score before the half to make it 27-14.

Second half, we dominate. But the offense is still out of sync even though Piland throws 2 strikes where the WRs made massive adjustments on the ball. Defense steps up besides letting Rice score the go ahead TD. The game changer was when it was 28-27 and we settle for a FG to make it 31-27. Them stopping us there changed the momentum.

Then we're driving at the end of the game deep in Rice territory and Piland fumbles the snap on 4th and 1...

Point is, imo..and other Coogs disagree with me. We will not be dynamic on offense with Piland as QB. Defensively, anyone we start at DT gets hurt. So we're thin there and our defense can't stop anyone. Although it's better than last year. If that's saying anything.

That being said this weekend is another rollercoaster weekend for the Coogs. But we're at that first drop on the Texas Cyclone and we haven't hit the bottom yet.

Thanks for the insight.

We have made Rice TEs Heisman candidates for decades so we know how you feel. I thought UH had a strong D this year? Little surprise to hear that of late it isn't playing up to expectations. I suspect that will change Saturday (always does when teams play us).

Our run defense is much better this year but UH's run game has given us trouble for the last few seasons. I will be interested to see how we do this game. Our secondary is learning to find its way. One of our best secondary player is out and we are struggling for consistent coverage in general. I would be interested to hear how the UH O line has performed. We have a pass rush for the first time in a long time and some explosive rushers (Davis in particular). If the UH O line is off, it could be a long day for the UH QB.

Our O has gradually improved over the season but still leaves many of us breathless with anticipation for it to finally break out. If the UH D isn't at its best then perhaps this is the real breakout game.

I still think this is a key game for us. UH has a recognized and respected program. We have to start beating the better programs to gain some respect.

I think we come out firing on all cylinders. This pretty much would give us a great chance to lock down CUSA west. 3 wins against division rivals would be great. I want to be able to go to ECU with the West clinched.

I'd love to see that, but I don't think JJ would do that, even if we could.

I don't think we've played well the last three games. Maybe it was good that we lost to Navy, maybe that will wake us up. We've got some tough games ahead, we need to be focused.

I can see us scoring two safeties, but no way they kick a field goal.

Last weeks game should serve as the "wake up" call. The Mustangs need to learn from it. How to finish drives, how to finish games, how to protect the ball and how to make more timely play calls.

SMU - 34
Houston - 22

In a game not as close as the final score
